We have started with call for sites and with initial engagement with parishes, residents associations, councillors, agents/developers/landowners.

The local plan is a document that sets out local planning policies and identifies how land is to be used, determining what will be built where. It is important that local residents are aware and take part at the appropriate stages to help shape the content of the local plan. We have created a short explanatory video which you will find at http://bit.ly/GCLPVideo and hear me and others talk about the plan and why its important to get involved. You can also check out my blog for some more info at http://tumihawkins.org.uk/GreaterCambridge-Local-Plan Consultations A number of Public Consultations are taking place over the summer holidays into September. The Summer Fair on Friday 5th July was a great success. It was the first one but most definitely won’t be the last!! There were lots of fun stalls, BBQ, Pimms and we had great support from the community, especially Vicki Arkesden who organised the Dog Show. Thanks to everyone who supported us – children had great fun exploring the Purser family tractor and the PCSO’s car and the performance from the choir was wonderful. The raffle was another great success thanks to the super work by Vicky Miles who got some fabulous prizes. Overall we raised approx. £1800 so thanks for your generosity. Look out for the date next year. We all hope you have a relaxing fun summer and recharge batteries ready for the autumn. __________________________________________________________________________

Pennies for St Michael's Church We do say a very big thank you to everyone helping – with the collecting/delivering and finally the counting of the pennies. As said below, every penny goes to maintain our village’s most historic building – the Church. Our next target is £2,700 = £55.34 still to raise for the next count. Some collections have come is but we still need more to reach this figure! So please if you are collecting pennies or other small coins - do carry on. They can be in any type of container or polythene bag - whatever! Also if you can be persuaded to start collecting please do. Every single penny goes to the Village Church Restoration Fund so the pennies are very gratefully received. Keeping our oldest building properly maintained is an ongoing task and we do need villagers support to achieve this. There is no other financial support from anywhere else other than the village SO PLEASE DO HELP When you have any pennies or bigger coins to hand in please contact Sheila Stephenson Tel. 01954 210638 email: sheila1pc@yahoo.co.uk. Or simply call round to my door at 1. Porthmore Close Highfields Caldecote CB23 7ZR. If we are not in at the time please leave them by the milk crate to the left of the front door. I always check that. If you can’t deliver them yourself I can arrange for them to be collected! I look forward to hearing of/receiving collections of any size. It will be fantastic if we can actually reach our new now £2700 target! Pennies of any quantity and other small coins, however tiny, will be very gratefully received ready for the next count which should happen later in the year. ANY help – however small – is very very welcome. ________________________________________________________________________

Heidi Allen Member of Parliament for South Cambridgeshire In my last newsletter, I discussed the Parliamentary debate that I secured to highlight the funding issue facing Cambridgeshire’s NHS services. We continue to be the third lowest funded county per head in England and I have been working closely with our CCG to evidence this. As a result, and on the back of assurances made during the Parliamentary debate, I secured a meeting with the Minister, Stephen Hammond at which the Accountable Officer of our CCG, Jan Thomas presented our findings. The Minister was receptive to our points and explained that the funding formula which determines allocations could not respond quickly enough to our rapidly growing population. Mr Hammond committed to work with the CCG and NHS England to look again at ways to correct the historical underfunding and ensure future growth projections better reflect actual growth, thus reducing the mismatch with per patient funding allocations. I will continue to follow up with the Department of Health and the CCG to ensure that the new administration honour this commitment. In spite of the funding shortfall, our local NHS services continue to provide outstanding care and clinical expertise to those in need. I was delighted to nominate the Arthur Rank Hospice for the NHS Parliamentary Care and Compassion Award and they proved to be worthy winners for the East of England category. The team at the Hospice go above and beyond to deliver high quality care with compassion and expertise. Just before the schools broke up for the summer holidays I made several visits to local Primary and Pre-Schools and saw the excellent work that they are all doing in spite of educational cost pressures. I wrote to the Prime Minister in early July, arguing that a cash injection for schools was needed now. 40 other MPs supported my letter. The Secretary of State responded, highlighting that he had set out a very strong case for Education as we approach the Treasury Spending Review at the end of the year. I will be making contact with the new Secretary of State when Parliament returns to hold him to this commitment. In the meantime, I would like to thank Homerton Nursery, Great Abington Pre-School and Elsworth Pre-School for demonstrating how valuable quality early years care can be for every child. These schools place care and learning at the heart of their provision giving children happy, exciting and playful days full of discovery. The learning journey continues at primary school and the same themes of learning, discovery and happiness were very much in evidence at Meldreth Primary and Girton Glebe Primary School when I visited. These thriving village schools want the very best for their pupils and are an extremely valuable part of our local communities. I wish the very best of luck to the Year 6 pupils who I met on my visits as they prepare to move up to secondary school. I will continue to fight for education funding that recognises that excellence in education needs resourcing and I am determined to deliver this message to the new Prime Minister and Secretary of State in the new school year.
