Centre of Excellence (COE) Dance Program
Current students
Cairns State High School offers COE Dance for Years 7 to 12.
External students
The COE Dance Program is offered with a strong contemporary and performance focus. All classes occur outside normal school hours at the Cairns High dance studios.
Students not currently enrolled at Cairns High must submit an Enrolment Expression of Interest Form and once the EOI is accepted, attend the nominated audition day. If this is not possible a digital audition submission can be lodged by the requested date.
The program emphasises: • development of skill and technique • public performance • links with industry professionals
Current students apply by nominating their interest via the Dance noticeboard and attend an annual audition.

Dance Excellence Year 8 students may elect to specialise in Dance and study the discipline for 2 lessons a week for the duration of the school year. Years 9 and 10 students may participate in the Dance Excellence program, a 2 year course where students study dance for 3 lessons a week. The program is offered with a strong emphasis on all styles of dance culminating in public performance. For acceptance into Dance Excellence students must have a demonstrated ability in the area of dance to be able to meet course demands.

Important Information All Centres of Excellence programs at Cairns High require additional tuition fees to cover the costs of specialist teachers, excursions, competitions and performances etc. Additional expenses include, but are not limited to, dancewear and costumes.
HOW TO ENROL
Students may apply for entry to the Cairns High Dance programs at any year level as there will be an annual intake for each year level.
Cairns State High School holds enrolment information evenings for parents and prospective students.
Progression is not guaranteed from one year to the next so students and parents must be aware of the commitment expected at the time of acceptance.
Year 6 into 7 in March Year 8 into 9 in August Year 10 into 11 in August At each of these evenings Enrolment Expression of Interest packs are made available to families. Completed forms must be returned by the due date. Students accepted for auditions will be advised of the audition time and date. A digital audition submission can be lodged by the requested date.
