A Message from the President Dear Friends, The fact that you are reading this means you are interested in what Coastal Authority Care Foundation is doing, so thank you and welcome! Coastal Authority Care Foundation’s team of officers, directors and volunteers is dedicated to helping veterans with serviceconnected injuries, especially mild traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress disorder. We raise money for cutting-edge medical treatment and associated costs not covered by insurance that may relieve symptoms, help restore quality of life and keep families together. PTSD and mTBI are two of the most prevalent injuries suffered by members of the US Armed Forces. The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center reported total cases of TBI between 2000 and Q1 2018 to be 383,947. Many veterans will not receive early diagnosis or will not seek treatment. In individuals with chronic, persistent symptoms of TBI, traditional medical interventions may be less than successful. In 2013, the United States Department of Veterans Affairs released a study that covered suicides from 1999 to 2010, which showed that roughly 22 veterans were committing suicide per day or 1 every 65 minutes. This number is even higher in the special operations community. It is not just the veteran who is impacted by these injuries. The entire family is affected by anger outbursts, frustration, difficulties with concentration and lack of sleep (among other symptoms) that is suffered by their loved one which all too often leads to break down of those relationships and results in unwanted separation, divorce, feelings of failure, loneliness, inability to work and sadly the question, “Why am I even here?� Seeing a need for nonprofit focus in this area, we formed Coastal Authority Care Foundation in December of 2015. We are growing and having a positive impact on veterans and their families thanks to our wonderful donors, sponsors, volunteers and supporters. On the following pages, you will find information on our mission, program, fundraising activities and the story of how our program had a positive impact on one veteran and his family.
