Juan Pérez Agirregoikoa La cultura no me interesa, 2003 El diseño es el mal de este mundo, 2005 Painting Juan Pérez Agirregoikoa recuperates the punk typography made of cut-out letters, imitating the anonymous letters, in a series of slogans permeated with the “anti” spirit.

Fabienne Audéoud Praying for… (serie), 2014 Painting The paintings by Fabienne Audeoud employ the aesthetics of the ugly, of anti-painting, of the poorly made, of the brazenly made. And they take up the punk attitude by utilizing irony, sarcasm, and the sense of humor: the paintings are odes to lost causes.

Antonio Ortega Para decir algo la primera premisa es tener algo que decir, 2014 Printed cardboard One of the primary punk tenets is do-it-yourself, implying not needing the industry (musical, artistic, or whatever) to realize something. But do-ityourself also implies having something to say. In fact, punk emerged from an anger and an unease that needed to find channels of expression for them. This necessity of having something to say is what the slogan by Antonio Ortega refers to, written, however, with a typography invented by himself (DIY).

Gelitin Das Kakabet, 2007 Book A typography entirely made of human shit. The group of Austrian artists Gelitin (who in many occasions recur to Viennese Actionism) perform an action in this case based on the scatological, on bad taste, and in effect on what is apparently inappropriate.

Martín Rico Documentación de performances, 2014 Installation Documentación de performances by Martín Rico depicts him hiding in urban spaces: underneath a manhole cover, sandwiched between posters… the work recalls the performances of Chris Burden or COUM Transmissions, in which the safety of the artist is endangered.

Itziar Okariz To Pee in Public or Private Spaces, 2001-2004 Video photographs Itziar Okaritz urinates standing up.

Tere Recarens Tere Spain, Champion, Watere, 1999 Terremoto, 1996 Video Terremoto documents an installation by Tere Recarens made with pieces of glass that the audience destroys. Tere Spain portrays her arrival in New York as a package or a suitcase at the airport, Champion where a group of young people toss her in blanket, and Watere her shower in the middle of the street from a fire hydrant in New York.

Federico Solmi Chinese Democracy, 2014 Video The videos by Federico Solmi are presented as parodies that take to an extreme aspects of the contemporary political and social situation. In Chinese Democracy he recounts the story of the ascent of a Chinese emperor over capitalist society. It is at the same time a criticism of the economic rise of China and of capitalism as a contemporary form of Fascism.

Bill Balaskas ÉCANOMIE, 2011 Installation Bill Balaskas repeats one of the basic strategies of Situationism, which was adopted by punk: détournement, or the modification of meaning of elements taken from capitalism. In this case he inserts the “A” of anarchism into the word “economy”, subverting the usual meaning of the term as tied to capital. Anarchism has not only been a point of reference for many punk groups, but many of the initiators of punk were members of anarchist groups.

Claire Fontaine Trust, 2010 Blank check A series of blank checks from the various galleries that work together with the French artists group Claire Fontaine. The questioning of the economic system is one of the strategies that punk has adapted from Situationism. Making a profit indecently is a recurring theme in statements by bands such as the Sex Pistols until their last reunifications. By calling into question value, ridiculing the relationship between decency and money, and ironizing the moral value, they echo Situationism and the anarchist groups of the 1960s, such as the Provos and their desire to eliminate economy.
