PROJECTS Beyond Update

C3 Church Haiti Earthquake Response Thank you church for your generous response towards the devastating Haiti earthquake. We gave a total of $14,000 divided equally between the Feed the Hungry and Compassion relief efforts. Feed the Hungry have confirmed that $6,500 of this money will be used to send a full 20-ton container of food, medical supplies, water and building materials to the area and the containers have already been dispatched. Feed the Hungry were already providing 2,200 daily meals to children in Haiti through their Every Child, Every Day Program. They will use their existing structures to get help to where it is most needed.

www.myc3church.net/projects

We were saddened to hear that the Compassion projects in Haiti were very hard hit with

4

at least 28 of their centres being affected and with the confirmed death of one of their staff members and another still missing. Our heartfelt prayers go out to the Compassion Team at this time. Also affected were many Compassion assisted children and their families with many being left homeless. Despite the severity of their circumstances the Compassion team continue to send uplifting reports on their progress in Haiti. Here is an excerpt from Compassion CEO Paul O’Rourke: “Our relief efforts are being led by the hundreds of church partners in both Haiti and the neighboring Dominican Republic, including churches impacted by the quake. Our magnificent Haitian staff are also putting aside their grief and pain to serve and bring comfort. Our first shipments of aid

have arrived and are being distributed. We are also expecting a chartered plane full of medicine, food, water and blankets to be dispatched in the next few days. As you can imagine, it will take some time to locate and assess the 20,000 children and 50 church partners affected by this enormous tragedy. We will focus our attention on children, particularly those orphaned by the earthquake.” It is a privilege for C3 to partner with these two organizations to provide support and comfort during such a distressing time. Psalm 34:17 The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.

and runs us through a quiz every week. He looks like he hasn’t shaved or showered since 1942 but he has a knowledge of trivia that puts Wikepedia to shame. One of my favourites though is Joel*. He suffers from schizophrenia and bi-polar. He LOVES Jesus! Profoundly Joel can unfold scripture like the best of the best theologians. Streetlevel is his home because it’s a place that is safe and he has a voice. Execute true justice Show mercy and compassion Do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the alien or the poor Let none of you plan evil in his heart against his brother! (Zechariah 7:9-10) OK… so what does that mean exactly?? That is the question I posed to the Lord when He gave me that scripture at the start of 2009. Around the same time I was asked to oversee one of our C3 Beyond initiatives. That being the feeding program for the disadvantaged community just up the road from our City Campus at the Salvation Army Streetlevel Mission. I might have known that a whole new world was about to open up!! Truly this scripture came alive as each time I visited this community I was more and more impacted by the great work of Captains Paul and Robbin Moulds. Not only do they execute true justice by feeding and creating

a home for up to 60 community members every week, they show endless mercy and compassion by loving each and everyone one of the people that visit.

By serving in this particular Beyond area my eyes have been opened, my heart has been stretched and my circle of friends has grown. I have been changed. Permanently!

Take Mick* for example… A homeless chronic alcoholic for nearly his entire adult life, brought about by unspeakable abuse during his childhood. He has been in the community for 25 years. Robbin and Paul continued to love and make a place for him and now he is clean and sober and one of the best stand up comedians I have ever heard!

We have many other wonderful people on our C3 team who would absolutely say the same thing. It is powerful and its scripture in action.

Then there is Susanna* once a quite famous performer who reportedly had a fortune but gave it all away! This woman arrives in the most outrageously glamorous outfits that would put any celebrity to shame. Susannah is ALWAYS smiling and she literally stops traffic as she travels around Surry Hills in her motorised wheelchair. Or how about Graham* the unbelievably intelligent guy that gets up during care and share

In 2010 while we grow and develop our teams I can sense that the partnership between C3 and The Salvation Army will only get stronger. We can look forward to combining our resources and see that we can continue to work together to “execute true justice and show mercy and compassion”. Written By Gilly Nixon If you are interested in being involved on a rotating roster we welcome you to come and be part of the team. Streetlevel runs on Friday nights from 5.30pm to 9pm. VOLUNTEER There is a tremendous strength that is growing in the world through... sharing together, praying together and working (beeing) together. Mother Teresa On Saturday 20th March, from 9:00am – 3:00pm we are having a good ol’ fashioned Volunteer Working Bee. Yes you heard right, a WORKING BEE right here at C3 Church Oxford Falls. We are calling upon all painters, gardeners, carpenters, cleaners and brickies... in fact if you’re a tradie or just good with your hands, if you’re male or female, young, middle-aged or older, working or retired (even if you can change a light bulb) then we need you to help make our church property sparkle! What will we be doing? We’ll be doing general weeding, gardening, cleaning, painting, minor repairs and maintenance, sweeping of pathways, dusting, high pressure paver cleaning and other bits and pieces.

Will it be well organised? Absolutely, as we know your time is valuable. We’ll have supervisors and co-ordinators who will oversee teams and areas. What if it rains? Rain, hail or shine, we will still soldier on! Plus, there is lots to do indoors. Lunch there is such thing as a ‘free’ lunch and we will be providing a yummy sausage sizzle for our amazing volunteers. This is a great chance to also connect with others. To sign up with your details: Visit the Concierge Desk or myC3church.net/ volunteer

So what do I need to bring? Come dressed for action in your trackies, overalls or casual clothes. Bring gloves, paint brushes and tools. But simply and most importantly bring yourself as we’ll also provide what’s needed.

WATER BAPTISMS MARCH 7TH, 5PM Meet in Glass house room (A) Bring a towel; wear dark clothes suitable to get wet & a spare change of clothes to wear after.
