Working/Braiding Together and Growing Stronger

Project 3, Duluth, Launched Jan. 21 with Community Lacrosse event

On Saturday, Jan. 21, the Center of American Indian and Minority Health (CAIMH) at the University of Minnesota hosted a traditional lacrosse teach-in and scrimmage for Native American students of all ages. Over 100 people attended at Denfeld High School for what is hoped to be the beginning of a traditional Native Lacrosse youth league in Northeastern Minnesota.

The hope is to strengthen student and community awareness of Native strengths and knowledge. Also, this event featured Native artists and businesses. Baby Cakes Wild Rice Bakery made 150 wild rice cupcakes and Avery Makes Room For Them provided chicken wild rice and squash wild rice soup. Nationally known company, Heart Berry, donated jerseys for all players and their families.

Working/Braiding Together and Growing Stronger

Project 3, Twin Cities kicking off this season

The pilot project is being finalized to include traditional lacrosse two times per week and a healthy eating class once per week. The project will take place at the American Indian Magnet School in St. Paul as part of the Flipside After school Program.

Twin Cities Native Lacrosse will implement the traditional lacrosse program and Dream of Wild Health has been involved in the formation of the Healthy eating and cooking curriculum.

About 50 kids went to play traditional lacrosse at Denfeld High School in Duluth on Saturday, Jan. 21. Teenage kids dominated the playing field in a large game covering two basketball courts. Anyone was welcome to play and families joined in as well.

Tentative timeline for programming is March 27 - May 11, 2023.

Land Acknowledgement Community of Practice: Last Session

We have completed seven of eight CoP sessions. During the series, seven different Indigenous community members and leaders shared their stories, worldviews, the history of their ancestors, and their thoughts on land acknowledgments and this CoP process. Members of C2DREAM and partners who attended engaged in discussion with the speakers.

There is still one more session in the series. In the last session, we will discuss what we have learned and the next steps for C2DREAM in this process. If you did not attend any of the previous sessions or watch any of the recordings, we recommend you view the recordings on the Google Site if you plan on attending the last session
