Hate itself is not a crime---but when it impinges on the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness ofothers, we must all be vigilant in the fight to overcome and erase it. Hate crimes, as defined by theHate Crimes Statistics Act, are “crimes that manifest evidence of prejudice based on race, genderand gender identity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity.” Race-based hate anddiscrimination against minorities throughout history, and the race-related struggles that minoritiescontinue to endure today, is the continued focus of this "Special Feature."
