It has been proven that nature has a positive effect on employees’ wellbeings. Tasked with the responsibility to design an of ce of the future that will house 50 employees, the main goal is to let in and take advantage of all of the natural light that comes in throughout the day, thus placing the large collaborative spaces in the corners of the of ce. Nature is also implied with various natural plant walls, grass ooring, and in the materials used for the ooring and furniture. The arrangement of the space give employees the exible solution to work in an open collaborative environment, individual desks, or semi enclosed meeting spaces. It is hoped that when employees are feeling stressed, they can escape to other parts of the of ce to feel more comfortable and relaxed; instead of employees leaving and walking around a park to become more at ease, they can get up from their desks and walk around the of ce.

Pattern for carpet and elevator wall, inspired by nature

Simplifying the folding leaves of a plant brought different forms into view. Playing with foreground and background, along with positive and negative space, a pattern was created.

Repeating this pattern created the textile for the carpet used in multiple collaborative areas as well as the wallpaper used by the elevators.

2 of the big community spaces in the of ce. Stationed at the corners near the cornered windows, these spaces get the most light, and with the faux grass ooring, feel the most like the employees are sitting outside.

Working with industrial designer Cassidy Lavine, digital designer Emily Kirk, and interior designer Natalie Fariello, an interactive pop-up shop was created to go handin-hand with a toy designed with visually impaired children in mind, Ollo. The popup shop was designed to re ect Ollo’s concepts of encouraging children to explore, interact with different textures, learn cause and effect, and learn alike versus different.

Following Ollo’s space theme, the pop-up shop re ects the forms and details of a spacecraft, complete with a sheer black fabric for the ceiling that lets the lights of the host convention center shine through like stars.

Designing with the small amount of square footage that was available proved to be a challenge, as the need for a retail space and separate unique experiences was desired.

Taking cues from a museum, the space has a minimalist feel to not overwhelm the guests; even Ollo is displayed in the retail space as though it were on display in a museum.

Ollo’s play pattern consists of six different planets, each thought up by the Ollo team.

For the pop-up shop, three planets are represented with three interactive rooms; Each being designed to encourage children to explore, learn about cause and effect, and learn about alike versus different. It was important to keep in mind the different reactions that guests may have, and to not create experiences that may be overly stimulating.

Drawn by vibrations and light, visitors can go up to the sphere that is activated. Once they press it, another sphere will light up and vibrate, encouraging the visitors to nd it and push it, thus activating another sphere.

Drawn by vibrations, visitors can touch the different lines and each will act like a different note on a musical scale.

Drawn by light and sounds, visitors can remove the magnetic cover from one circle and place it over another circle.

It was important to not make the experience of the Ollo pop-up store overwhelming; Since it will be housed in convention centers, employees let in a certain number of parties at a time. The guests can leisurely walk through the space while getting a feel for Ollo on a much bigger scale.

The retail space was designed to be perceived as more of a musum where guests could come and view the product on display. To keep with the minimalistic theme, an employee with a tablet is available if guests wish to purchase Ollo.

The privacy walls blocking off visual cues from the interactive rooms give guests the opportunity to learn about the interactions they will have, in case they wish to skip that room.

Tasked with the responsibility of transforming a store in New York to a retail store for well known fashion designer John Galliano. In uenced by the vibrant 80’s club scene, John Galliano’s clothing is dramatic, theatrical, elegant, and bold. He identi ed his love of theater and femininity as central to his creations, saying, “My role is to seduce.” With that in mind, this store subtly expresses the curves of a woman’s gure in the way that the walls curve and how that form is mimicked onto the oor, and the dressing rooms being designed to show off the silhouette of the person changing. Taking inspiration from his thought that, “The clothes should speak for themselves,” the space is highly re ective to display the clothing in every point of view.

Minimilistic Landscape

Looking at one generation to the next, it comes as no surprise that there are different ways of living. Proposed clients were two working artists, and possibly their families; one from Generation X/Y, and the second from Generation S/B. The goal was to take two different apartment complexes from the Westbeth in New York and combine them together to create one apartment. Challenges that arose included smoothly intertwining the different aethetic styles and working styles of each client, as well as determining public and private spaces.
