At Home Academy

At Home Academy offers individualized personal tutoring for all students and subject areas. Our goal is to find the fastest and most effective way to help your student close skill gaps, master subject matter, generate enthusiasm for learning, and prepare them to thrive in any academic setting. Education is certainly not one-sizefits-all. Every student learns in different ways and has different academic needs. It is for this reason that our team takes the time to get to know students as the individuals they are. We pride ourselves in matching your student with the right tutor and creating a plan customized to your student’s learning style and goals.

In addition, we offer the most comprehensive and proven test prep services available. We cover the ACT/SAT, PSAT, and AP Tests as well as many other professional and education-related tests. Our unique and personalized approach to test preparation includes real-time practice and instant feedback to allow for pinpoint accuracy in preparation, focusing only where help is needed. Our experienced tutors are experts in delivering unique techniques, tips, and strategies in relatable language which creates an ideal learning environment.

ST. MARK'S CATHEDRAL

Founded in 1953, St. Mark’s Cathedral School is a coed, Episcopal school serving children ages two through eighth grade. Our mission is to value the individual who comes to us, help that student realize her or his potential, and foster a culture that reflects Christian values, intellectual curiosity, and a strong work ethic. Our goal is to develop a student who first feels self-confident educationally, socially, and spiritually, and can reach out to help others in our community and the broader world. Our small class sizes allow teachers to give students the individualized attention they need to thrive. We offer vibrant classes that engage hands-on learning, including enrichments such as Christian education, science lab, art, music, global language, computer science, life skills, and more. Our students attend weekly chapel services and incorporate prayer into their daily routine. We educate the whole child and offer opportunities for athletics, arts, service, community-building, and other co-curriculars.

Through our vigorous curriculum, small class sizes, and student-centered approach, we help young people realize their potential and develop the confidence for lifelong success. Our graduates are routinely valedictorians, class officers, and community leaders, and have earned millions in scholarship offers and attended the most selective of colleges and universities.

St. Mark’s is a ministry of St. Mark’s Cathedral in the Episcopal Diocese of Western Louisiana, is fully accredited by the Southwest Association of Episcopal Schools and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and the National Association of Episcopal Schools. Come see why it all begins here.

First Baptist Church School

First Baptist Church School is a Preschool Mid 2s/ Young K3 through 8th Grade school. Founded in 1970, FBCS has a rich tradition of providing an excellent academic education in a Christian environment. Our school serves over 400 students.

Our vision states: “First Baptist Church School strives to produce a generation of confident and self-directed lifelong learners with the strong academic discipline, technological skills, and personal faith necessary to realize their potential in God’s world.” To achieve this vision, our instruction is challenging, enriching, and differentiated for all types of learners. The academic instruction students receive prepares them for the next phase of their education and lives. Also, FBCS offers pull-out programs during the school day for gifted students, students interested in music and the arts, students with language disabilities (dyslexia), and those needing general academic support.

Our staff of educators are highly credentialed, passionate about our students, and committed to the success of each child. We have a holistic approach and are intentional about teaching practice. The curriculum we utilize is based on national academic standards. Our student-teacher ratio is optimal, and because of this, we can be very strategic and individualized with our instruction. Technology, hands-on activities, and manipulatives are highly utilized to support instruction at every level.

In addition to the core curriculum, students enjoy a variety of enrichment classes, including Bible study every day and Chapel weekly. With caring, experienced staff, First Baptist Church School provides students an experience that focuses on development in all aspects of their lives.

ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC SCHOOL

Being a faith-filled school that upholds family values and a way of life in line with Church teaching is truly what makes St. Joseph Catholic School special. St. Joseph continues to grow under the administration team’s fifth year (Clayton Cobb, principal, and Katherine Suckle, assistant principal) with 320 students enrolled for the upcoming school year. In line with the school’s motto, “Academic Excellence Surrounded by Faith,” St. Joseph Catholic School answers the call to form the entire person, partnering with parents so that each child is formed in virtue and academically prepared for success K3 through 8th grade, and beyond.

St. Joseph Catholic School has long provided families with a sense of belonging to a greater family. The school’s forty new families this year will find that the teachers, support staff, and administration all provide the love and support needed for students to become responsible members within their families, the Church, and the community in which we live. This begins at an early age by providing the way for each student to hear and respond to the call to serve God and one another in kindness. Such virtues are taught each day at St. Joseph for the sake of living out this Gospel message. It’s a great time to be a Falcon!

Centenary College

Centenary College of Louisiana welcomed its largest incoming class since 2011 this fall and continues to look ahead to its 200th anniversary in 2025. This year, students who attended the College’s signature Centenary in Paris program were invited to create a shared memory of their time in Paris through the submission of their favorite photographs taken during CIP. Those pictures were curated by College faculty into a book published by the Centenary Press, and 120 of the photos were featured in a large-scale collaborative exhibition at Shreveport’s R.W. Norton Art Gallery that drew more than 1,000 visitors in August and September.

Centenary’s popular new major in kinesiology was also officially launched in August, and a new guaranteed interview agreement with the MD program at LSU Health Shreveport joins several other existing partnerships that provide pathways for Centenary students seeking careers in medicine and allied health. Hurley School of Music professor Dr. James Eakin, a Centenary alumnus, won the prestigious 2022 American Prize in composition for his choral work #twitter- lieder, which was performed by the Centenary College Choir this season.

While the highly anticipated return of varsity football is still months away, head coach Byron Dawson has recruited a strong cohort of players who are up early for daily practice and looking forward to playing conference opponents in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) in fall 2024.

With a mission to prepare global citizens to live productive lives of vitality and purpose, Centenary is proud to be Shreveport-Bossier City’s college.

ST. JOHN BERCHMANS CATHOLIC SCHOOL

Change is afoot at the Cathedral of Saint John Berchmans Catholic School, from a new principal and faculty to new Promethean boards in classrooms. This year we welcome Mr. TC Veit from Loyola College Prep as principal, who brings experience from Catholic secondary and post-secondary education and joins his son, who has been a student here for four years! Mr. Veit’s experience ranges from being a father of four with his wife Lynace to his work at the Louisiana School and Saint Gregory’s University in Oklahoma. His degrees include a Bachelors in Music Education, a Masters in Higher Education Administration with an emphasis on Counseling, and a Masters in Theology and Christian Ministry from the Franciscan University of Steubenville.

The Promethean boards are part of our ongoing project to have the best technology available to all K3-Eighth grade students in support of our mission to provide excellence in education. SJB is proud to continue our partnership with LSUS, to give our Middle Schoolers an introduction to the Classics and Humanities. This year SJB will begin a school-wide Spanish language program with us all wishing you “Bienvenida!” These programs join robust 75-year academic traditions in Science Olympiad, award-winning advanced Math classes, and Science and Social Studies Fairs. We are thrilled to have a sister from OLS joining us to teach religion for the Upper Elementary School and coordinate with the Middle School theology program to anchor our students in the Roman Catholic tradition.

We are happy to announce the return of girls basketball to our athletics program to join boys basketball, cheer, cross country, and Kids on the Run. It is a great day to be an SJB Cardinal, so schedule a tour and see the school voted best in the SB today!
