By Simon Russell

A man has been arrested in Elda and accused of making 13,500 phone calls of a sexual nature to women. Two of the victims of his calls were minors and one woman received an incredible 400 calls in two weeks – an average of more than one call an hour day and night. As the calls were made across Spain, the National Police had been investigating the case after receiving a number of complains and linking the cases. The calls in question relate to a period of just 100 days and the true amount of calls he made may never be known. The

accused is a 44 year old Spanish man and he is expected to be charged with stalking, a relatively new offence in Spain, defined as undermining the freedom and security of the victim.

He had obtained details of the women’s personal and professional life, probably from social media, information which he used in the calls and made them even more disturbing for the victims.

A major marijuana growing operation based in a small Catalan town was using so much electricity that the entire town of Sant Miquel de Fluvia was regularly experiencing power cuts. Many local inhabitants were aware that the drugs factory was causing the power problem but threats from the gang running the operation meant they were too afraid to tell the authorities. Marijuana growing uses an enormous

amount of power for heating and lighting conducive to the plants growth. This would appear to be what alerted the authorities, suspicious why a rural town of only 800 would require such huge amounts of electricity. The operation had been spread over several houses but the electricity spikes still set alarm bells ringing. Ten people have been arrested and over 1,600 marijuana plants confiscated said the local police.
