Co-founder of Mack Events, the company behind GlastonBARRY, Ross Mackintosh reveals his South Wales Secret. “Mack Events was talked about over 10 years ago between Matt [Blumberg] and I, over a beer when we were just out of our teens,” starts Ross when asked about the beginnings of Mack Events. “We’re cousins who grew up in Barry and are only a year apart in age. We always talked about putting on a music festival and calling it GlastonBARRY. Fast forward 10-plus years, I was living and working in Seville as an aircraft engineer and Matt in Cardiff as a teacher. We opened Mack Events when I transferred back to the UK and our first few events were evenings with sporting legends. This gave us a legit look and people started to take notice of what we were doing. We then did the first GlastonBARRY at a theatre and sold it out. The little dream became a reality.” What does Ross feel the best part of Barry BUZZ 8
is? “Barry has so many qualities: the beautiful beaches, Porthkerry and Romilly Park, some amazing restaurants and of course Marco's Cafe. I think Barry is thriving events wise – the Vale Council do an amazing job with the Barry Island Weekenders, which include Cinema By The Sea and Isle Of Fire. All four years of GlastonBARRY have sold out; we had over 5,000 people attending over the weekend this year, which is a far bigger capacity than any previous years.” He then reveals his South Wales Secret: “The Bush Inn.
