SWARM Butetown History & Arts Centre, Cardiff Bay, Thurs 11 Sun -14 Aug Tickets: £10/£8. Info: alan@wearefio.co.uk / www.wearefio.co.uk “You’ve got a swarm of people coming across the Mediterranean, seeking a better life,” bellowed David Cameron to parliament last year. It’s this ill-considered quote that inspired the title of Swarm, a site-specific piece of theatre made with a combination of amateur community performers and professional actors. Set in the midst of a civil war, characters are vying to escape the conflict to a land of relative peace; they need to prove their credentials to be given the chance, to stand out amongst the proverbial swarm of would-be refugees. Devised by London and Cardiff-based theatre company Fio, Swarm seeks to offer commentary on the hot-button issue of migration to Britain, the often poisonous discourse around it, and the human faces behind the headlines.
