n October 21, publisher Ingga S. Cabangon Chua unveiled Locale, a coffee table style magazine on the modern Philippines’ lifestyle and culture, during the KATHA Awards ceremony held at the CITEM for International Trade Expositions and Mission’s (CITEM) Hall One in the International Trade Complex, Pasay City. “Filipinos are some of the most hardworking, innovative and resilient people. And I believe that their stories need to be heard. And that’s where Locale comes in,” says Cabangon Chua. “We bring to life the stories of modern Filipinos and we do this through beautiful photos, rich text and easy to read clean pages.” For its first issue, Locale showcases the design landscape of the country by curating stories on the victories and struggles of Filipino designers and master craftsmen. Coincidentally, Cabangon Chua also conferred the first Locale Editors’ Choice Award to the Brindle pendant lights from Industria Home Vico Design & Manufacturing Corp. The winning piece best exemplified the Filipino talent and ingenuity and will be featured in Locale’s succeeding edition of its Design Issue and in the Export Unlimited section of the BusinessMirror. Judges for the said award were composed of Locale Publisher Ingga S. Cabangon Chua, Editor in Chief Carla Mortel Baricaua, BusinessMirror Editor in Chief June Vallecera, Philippines Graphic Editor Joel Pablo Salud, Interior Designer Gerard Mendoza, Pinstripe
