From the Editor: The Big Change

A

s you all know, Business 2 Business has been looking for a new editor and chief that can make this magazine into something that helps every business and every business owner grow and thrive, from marketing to legal, to office attire. We hope to fill all of your needs. Help you share your business with businesses all over the United States. This week, we think we have found our new editor. We would love to give her the space she needs to introduce herself.

J

enniffer Pearce, although nearing 36, loves skipping down the hall, hopscotch and coloring. Jenniffer was a gymnast for 6 years achieving 2nd in State status before redirecting her heart to varsity cheerleading. She loves running and has run a 5K with family and is due to run a 10K with friends.

J

enniffer has a yearning for knowledge of the functionality of the human body. She has completed the AFPA certification, is CPR certified and studied physical therapy in college. Jenniffer has an alter ego side in which creativity is a necessity. She has completed prerequisites

for art programs in college and wrote for a skate and snowboard magazine. Currently, Jenniffer is a frequent contributor for Ingredients Magazine-which is published monthly. Jenniffer also won a notable mention for a short story which is set for public release in early July 2011 in the book Love Is.

W

ith a desire to be a part of the community Jenniffer has organized Charitable Events such as school supplies for Parkview Elementary School and donations for The Rape Crisis Center and The Homeless Shelter. She has served lunch, donated Thanksgiving Turkeys, put together a canned food drive, and gathered clothing and other household items to donate.

A

nytime between

5:00pm and the wee hours of the morning you might find Jenniffer doing one or more of the following: gardening, mowing the lawn, reading, sketching, listening to/researching music or enjoying a nice glass of wine while getting inspiration from favorite magazines such as Departure Magazine and the latest JCrew.

A few last items that make Jenniffer’s heart go pitter patter: are organic coffee, the “infamous Thanksgiving Turkey Brine” and the fact that Jenniffer’s staff lines up outside her office door on Friday afternoons to get their hair done for their night out adventures.

he branding and construction of a new business; what does that mean? It seems so complicated when you are starting out, especially to new business owners like us, Chris Manfre and Jenniffer Pearce owners of SeaViolet Designs. Using an analogy that is familiar to explain steps may make the project a little easier to swallow. It’s good to collect all the research you can and then weed out all the unnecessary details. Too much information can be overwhelming so focus in what feels right and what matches up with your projected end goals. One way to get started is to come up with a training program for your company; get it ready for a body building competition.

Establish your foundation. What are your goals; both short and long term? Establish a projection of where you want to go with your company. What do you want to accomplish? When picturing company in your head what does it look like when you meet the first short term goal and then the next 5, and so on? What motivates you to be the best can be. Map out what the substance and core of your business is going to be. Define the qualities you want behind the scenes of your business. We have all worked in places where there is no substance behind that flashy curtain. The outcome is lack of follow through. What was represented to clients and employees is not what was delivered; result, a business that comes crashing down. Need to have a solid defined substance. Brainstorm and collaborate to come up with your 7

www.Business2Business-Magazine.info company name. What has meaning, what will you be emotionally tied to. Your name should be catchy and stay in the people’s minds, easy to read and remember. When choosing your company name should do numerous searches in a search engine; see if the name that you have chosen is taken. See what comes up when doing a search, what does name mean, what else comes up with search. Logo should be simple, memorable, and catches the eye. Font should to be easy to read. Color scheme-what energy you are trying to portray? Pick colors that represent comfort and warmth. Be aware that some color schemes portray a chilly or distant environment. Taglines should simply describe what you are made up of and what you have to offer. Website should be clean and easy to maneuver around in; should contain portfolio of works done. Establish what kind of environment you want to surround yourself in? High expectations for employees and clients; want what is best for everyone, progressive and forward moving. The term more weight is not always better, instead use less weight and do more reps to make your muscles bigger is a good concept here. For a business fancy, flashy and elaborate is not always better. Don’t be intimidated when you see another company using more weight than you. Don’t lose your perspective when other flashy companies come into view. Remember your goals, should not worry about what your neighbor is doing.

won’t. The key is to increase with each short term goal that is met. This will stimulate the mind to build more muscle. What signals the muscle building progress to occur? Stepping out for your realm of comfort and pushing to accomplish something never tried before. Make sure your company has enough caloric surpluses to support growth. Consume high protein foods- atmosphere that feeds the soul. Always know what is going on with company keep on same page with employees meet regular basis. Get enough sleep-ideas flow while sleeping. Don’t get caught up in business to where it consumes your life. Need to have down time to rest mind. Form long lasting customer relationships, being flexible and open to their needs. Remember to be genuine in your relationships and in who you are. Finances are important pieces to the puzzle. Make sure you have someone to keep expenses and logistics on track. Some additional Components: Good post workout meal-follow up after a project with a client and great customer service. Consistency and persistence- remember that there will be discouraging events that come about. But it is how you deal with them that make you who you are. Instead of getting down on yourself decide to be awesome instead. Be open to change, make an effort to change the energy in your environment to create new and different opportunities; along the lines of taking a different route on the way home from work. Don’t be afraid to let personality shine through. That is what make you stand out from the rest. Never loose sight of what you stand for.

Progressive Overload The key to your businesses success. In body building this term refers to the fact that our bodies will not build muscle unless we give them a significant reason to. Putting this concept in place for your business means keeping your short term goals in the front of your mind; constantly making progress and gradually increasing capabilities to demands that will help you build your clientele. Like building muscle, if not consistently challenged business will have no reason to build, so it

Link Yourself to Success

words”. (In a previous article we talked about how to find the best and most successful keywords). By using basic keywords for your menu, and then elaborating those keywords throughout your web site by creating links within the text of your web site containing these same keywords. Setting them up as links, and then supporting them by giving your <href> tags titles that are more descriptive and give your Search Engine Optimization a small boost. One more small trick is to consider the order your menu is in. There is a small relevance in what Search Engine’s see first. Instead of prioritizing alphabetically, try setting your menus by the most successful items – or maybe the items you would like to have listed as the most successful. The top menu will always be read first and will be seen as a higher priority. By creating links inside your pages with subsequent keywords then gives Google the task of prioritizing what your main “keyword” is. They do this by “crawling” your web site and counting the number of times any specific word in your web site appears. I have had clients who use extensive amounts of psuedocode (&nsp;) within there web sites and then discover that this is the keyword that they have been indexed in the search engines for - oops, didn’t mean to do that.

ithin every successful Progressive Integrated Marketing Campaign is a powerful networking strategy, and by including your search engine optimization, a similar technique called link building strategy. When talking about Search Engine Optimization, links will fall into two separate types of categories. 1. Internal Links 2. Inbound Links First, we will talk about our internal links. What classifies as an internal link and what value do they have in our overall Search Engine Optimization? An internal link is a set of keywords enclosed in an <href> tag that links to a page or item somewhere else within your web site. Web Site Menu’s are a great example of internal links and depending on how you present your menu, these should be your most relevant internal links. Your most relevant keywords at their core should always be the main menu. Outside Sleeping, Outside Camping, Sleeping Bags, Tents, etc would be considered your main “key-

The trick is to create the perfect harmony between the number of keywords and the number of links that reside from within your web site. Most Important is to start your link building strategy from within your own web site, then you can work on those inbound links. Inbound Links

Creating an Inbound link building strategy brings a whole new set of rules and a whole new set of fun. Because so much of these links are dependent more on specialized progressive integrated marketing techniques we will barely touch this subject and cover it in more detail when we talk about Social Networking. Before we start discussing any inbound link building strategies, I would like to cover some of the most dangerous forms of inbound links and some of the penalties of using them. Link Farming Link Farming in recent years has become a bannable offense with Google and should be avoided at all cost. So you ask what is link farming. Years ago, when Google first put relevance on inbound links to rank web sites, some incredibly resourceful people saw this as a great opportunity so they created the link farm, may charged for it and made a very successful business out of the practice. This practice has since become less used, because this is the easiest way to get banned from search engines – especially Google. Today there are similar versions of this, many seo companies offer to post your link on hundreds of web sites for a price, and in the beginning it works beautifully, and then one day you are completely gone from the search engines. Try hard to avoid these kinds of scams. The latest is a tool that will submit articles that you write on hundreds of e-zines. Recently Google has declared this as a form of duplication and link farming and should be avoided. If somebody offers to sell you a tool to accomplish this, just say no thanks,

I will do my SEO the good old fashion way. The overnight fix is usually the one that gets you banned in the long run. In February of 2011, Google started a watch on repetitive content. So if you place the same article on hundreds of sites and they all point to you, this is the best way to get black listed for this practice. This is one case where it is not easier to beg for forgiveness instead of asking for permission. If you run a e-commerce web site, you might want to see how many of your product descriptions are copied and pasted from your affiliates web site. Take a minute and mix it up and bit, have some fun, be creative and rise above the others who get products from the exact same supplier. In my next article we will talk about the power of Social Networking and “thinking outside of the box.

ho doesn’t love food? I mean, aside from the occasional teenage girl or health-nut that tries desperately to deny the fact that she is, indeed, human and therefore requires sustenance to survive. For the rest of us, food is more than just a necessity to keep on living; it is a source of joy and a means of socializing. It brings family and friends together more often than probably anything else, and you can bet that there will be food at pretty much any social gathering because, let’s face it, no one will show up unless there is going to be food. Despite all of our individual differences as human beings, we all have at least one thing in common: we need food. Here in America, the love of food has gotten somewhat out of hand. Designing Your Website To Rank High On Google By Jon E Speight

S

o let’s say that you’re sat behind your desk thinking about what your new website should contain. Well when I built my first website the only thing I considered was what my viewers would want to see, and for the most part I believe that’s the correct way to view things when you go about building any website or community. But at the same time great content and features are useless until you get people to actually visit your website. So here are a couple of personal tips I’ve learned when designing.

Link Structure Now I understand everybody will ‘build as they go along’ because you never want your website to just stop being updated but the link structure is an important part of your site as this is how search engine spiders will move around your website, so the easier and more functional it is the higher the chances that more of your content, or at least the content you want to show, will be indexed. Side note: For people who worry about keyword density if you have a robot .txt file specifying certain pages not to be crawled and indexed then the only worry you have is working out a link structure for those pages that fit the user expectations. Title Tags Now I don’t know about you but I’ve come to love title tags, and that’s because 1) they’re useful and 2) it just

www.Business2Business-Magazine.info looks cool. Now I’m not saying go mad and title tag everything... that would be annoying. But to use them on certain words or phrases where you could explain a bit more in-depth is a valuable resource. Plus it’s extra content on your website so it’s a bonus for search engine optimisation too. Meta Tags I would like to take a moment to talk about meta tags. Now, I know at some stage they were useful but due to keyword stuffing they are basically ‘skipped over’ by crawlers - There’s even a video on YouTube with Matt Cutts explaining about the situation. I don’t want to say ‘don’t ever use them!’ but it’s not an issue if you don’t as the don’t make much, if any, difference to search engine optimisation. Image Tags In website design I find there are all sorts of ways to im-

prove your website and image tags are one of them. Great for telling Google about the picture, maybe fit a keyword or too in and people searching for your image may visit your website as opposed to through text searching. Either way it’s a must have - It only takes seconds to do. As for the rest of the issues like colour, layout etc I normally Google bad website design because you can get a good idea what is acceptable and what should be banned from the internet. Really most things go in website design and it’s not a bad idea to try new ideas. If you liked my article on website design I am planning on doing a series of tutorials from beginner to advanced including uploading to servers etc installing content management systems and more. business owner is personally liable for all liabilities and obligations of the business, which liability extends, not only to liabilities in excess of the amounts invested in the business including any insurance coverage, but also to the business owner’s personal assets.

By Kelly Bagla

2. GENERAL PARTNERSHIP

As a San Diego North County business attorney, I am frequently asked:

A GENERAL PARTNERSHIP = is an association of two or more persons to carry on a business. A general partnership is another type of business entity which is easy to form but requires a written partnership agreement to govern the operations of the partnership and the relationship among the partners.

“What type of business should I be?” It generally depends on what kind of business you want to conduct. The type of business entity should reflect the kind of business you do.

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS = for a partnership are minimal and require that a Statement of Information be filed with the State and the partnership maintains records to provide to the partners in connection with the proper exercise of the partner’s rights and duties under the partnership agreement.

“What business entities are commonly used?” There are generally six most common business entities used today which are: Sole Proprietorship General Partnership

MANAGEMENT = in a general partnership extends to each partner whereby each partner is an agent of the business and their actions generally bind the business.

Limited Partnership Limited Liability Company

The LIABILITY = of a general partnership is that a partner’s liability not only extends to that partner’s percentage interest in the business but also to the partner’s personal assets as well.

Corporation Subchapter S Corporation

3. LIMITED PARTNERSHIP

“What is the difference between the different types of business entities?” Here is a breakdown of the differences:

A LIMITED PARTNERSHIP = is a partnership formed by two or more persons that has one or more general partners and one or more limited partners as co-owners of a business. A written partnership agreement should be established between the business and its partners and a written partnership agreement should also be established between the partners themselves establishing the classes of general or limited partners.

1. SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP A SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP = is a business owned and operated by an individual. Sole proprietorships are the basic forms of business organizations, which require no formal type of government filings to form the business and are not required to follow any type of operating formalities.

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS = for a limited partnership require more formal filings with the State, such as, filing a Certificate of Limited Partnership and obtaining an agent for service of process.

The BENEFIT = of a sole proprietorship is the taxability of business income and the deductibility of business losses on the business owners individual tax returns. The LIABILITY = of a sole proprietorship is that the 17

MANAGEMENT = in a limited partnership extends to one or more general partners who have exclusive management authority thus limiting the decisions of the limited

www.Business2Business-Magazine.info partners in the business. The LIABILITY = of a limited partnership is that the general partner is personally liable for the partnership’s debts, obligations and liabilities. However, the limited partnership allows limited partners to avoid subjecting their personal assets outside of their investment. A limited partner is granted limited liability as long as the partner does not participate in the control of the partnership business. 4. LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY A LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY = is an entity having one or more members, organized under State statute. Limited liability companies have all the powers of natural people, which include the ability to transact business, sue or be sued, make contracts, own and transfer real estate, and issue stock subject to limitations. COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS = for a limited liability company require more formality in formation and operation, such as, filing Articles with the State, filing a Statement of Information with the State, obtain an agent for service of process, and establish an operating agreement. MANAGEMENT = in a limited liability company can be conducted by all its members or by one manager. Officers may be appointed to conduct the affairs of the business. The LIABILITY = of a limited liability company is limited for all its members, managers and officers. As long as the State’s statutory requirements are followed, the members, managers and officers of the business are not personally held liable for any debt, liability or obligations of the business arising in contact, tort or otherwise solely by being a member, manager or officer of the business. 5. CORPORATION A CORPORATION = commonly known as a C or regular corporation, is by far is the most common and well known form of business entity. All corporations are governed by the State of incorporation and are treated as separate and distinct

legal entities separate from its owners with all the rights to own property, make contracts and sue in its own name. COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS = for a corporation require strict statutory compliance, such as, filing the Articles of Incorporation with the State, filing a Statement of Information with the State, obtaining an agent for service of process, establishing bylaws, issuance of stock, establishing a board of directors, appointment of officers, holding annual shareholder meetings, holding annual director meetings, and maintaining books and records of written minutes. MANAGEMENT = in a corporation is generally conducted by the board of directors with the day to day operations of the business ran by the officers. The overall decision making lies with the shareholders of the business. The LIABILITY = of a corporation is limited for all its shareholders and the shareholder’s personal liability is limited to the investment. As long as the State’s statutory requirements are followed, the shareholders, directors and officers of the business are not personally held liable for any debt, liability or obligations of the business arising in contact, tort or otherwise. y grandkids recently came to Northern Utah for a week of outdoor fun and adventure. Unfortunately, neither of them was very interested in fly fishing or, as they would say, even fishing fly. They are teenagers. They are not used to spending extended periods of time outdoors or hanging out in a yurt. So I shelved any expectations of fly fishing and asked them to help mount a motionactivated camera near a wildlife watering hole above Bear Lake. They got excited about the idea and the hike, so my wife and I got them geared up and the four of us made our journey to the watering hole early in the evening before most of the game animals began moving around. As we neared the watering hole from the north (and as the kids were watching where they placed their feet among the sagebrush to avoid stepping on any snakes), I quietly and firmly told them to stop. “Stop! Stop!” I whispered. I had spotted a cow moose and her juvenile calf coming down the mountain from the west about 100 yards away, moving toward the water. The cow spotted us (of course); we stayed stationary while she looked us over. All three adults with their respective teenagers were about the same distance from the watering hole. After a brief pause, the moose’s teen ambled down to the water and began drinking. She followed behind, stopping every few steps to look at us. She finally made it to the watering hole and, as though her arrival was a sign of permission, her teenager flopped down into the watering hole and began rolling on his back in the water. My grandkids wanted to get closer. So I told them to slowly make their way toward a bush that was

on a tangent to the watering hole so we would not be approaching them directly. “When the mom lowers her head to drink, take 2 or 3 steps and stop,” I instructed. We waited patiently until she began drinking and then moved about 3 yards. We paused. She raised her head and looked at us. We waited for about 20 or 30 seconds for her next drink. She lowered her head and we moved another few steps and stopped. We repeated this slow approach another five or six times to arrive at the bush that was about 60 yards away from the moose. The mom kept her eye on us, but she and her teen remained calm and stayed at the watering hole. We were able to watch this rare wildlife encounter for another 10 minutes until my grandson, in a brief fit of teenage energy, spooked the moose and they burst out of the watering hole. We expected them to move into the trees for the night, but they stopped and began feeding on grass near an aspen grove about 75 yards from us. Mom kept looking at us as they grazed their way up the mountain into the grove of aspen. Yes, I would have enjoyed fly fishing with my grandkids. But sometimes it’s not about the fish. My wife and grandkids and I had a far richer and more memorable experience with the moose than if we had caught another fish. Families Setting up Bank Accounts for their Children, After the Death of Father or Mother? By Craig Larsen

I

n reading the obituaries, Craig Larson always has this question cross his mind: “why are families setting up bank accounts for the children of the deceased?” “Didn’t they have life insurance?” “Why would they ask other people to send money to an account set up to take care of their children?” Craig Larson explains that Term Life Insurance is inexpensive. Costs could be as low as a dollar a day, for $1,000,000.00 of coverage; for those in their 20’s and 30’s. “Why wouldn’t people have the moral obligation to make sure their families are taken care of?” Most people get it, they just don’t do it.

Craig Larson has been in the Life insurance business for 26 years. He started on March 1, 1985.Throughout the years Craig has established a foundation of core reasons as to why life insurance is so important. Life insurance is an act of love. Life insurance can be the secure blanket when spouse or provider dies. Life insurance has the potential of creating money. Life insurance could take care of you for the rest of your life. Have enough life insurance that you can live off the interest-establish this through financial planning. Have a game plan. Life insurance is a smart thing to do, get that “feel good” feeling by taking care of people. Life insurance can keep families together - no money, lifestyles have to change. Most people get it, they just don’t do it.
