Team Titles on the line Saturday during State Wrestling Tourney Defending champs Perry Meridian, Yorktown and Adams Central are also the No. 1 seeds at Saturday’s IHSWCA Team State Dual Meet Tournament. Westfield High School, located just off U.S. 31, north of Indianapolis, is host for the second annual state meeting, which brings together 24 of Indiana’s best high school squads for a day-long wrestling carnival. Teams are divided into classes, based on school enrollment. Perry Meridian, defending IHSAA state champion, has been ranked No. 1 all season in the coaches’ Top 20 poll. The Falcons compete in Class AAA and face Bloomington South in Saturday’s opening round at 10 a.m. (EST) Longtime powerhouse Evansville Mater Dei is No. 2 seed in the Class AAA tournament and faces East Noble in the opener. In Class AA, Yorktown – tied for seventh in the most recent coaches’ Top 20 poll – takes on Lebanon in the first match of the day. No. 2 seed Leo, a Fort Wayne-area school, goes up against Danville. Class A is loaded with teams who are well-familiar with each other, as four come from the northeast corner of the state. The Flying Jets of No. 1 seed Adams Central will battle Clinton Central in the 10 a.m. start. No. 2 seed Fremont meets South Putnam. Wrestling will continue through three rounds with the championship stales to begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. The Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association (IHSWCA) started its Team State Duals two years ago, after the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) stopped using dual meets to determine a state wrestling champ. The IHSAA now uses an individual tournament to select its champ. 2
Coaches didn’t want to give up on the dual meet format, so they started their own mid-season state tourney. Teams were selected using a computer program that weighed several factors. Tim Creason

IHSWCA Hall of Fame Banquet The Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame Banquet will again be held at Jonathan Byrd’s Restaurant on Sunday February 23, 2014. The banquet will begin at 1:00 with festivities concluding around 4:00. The cost of the event is $20 per person. The deadline to reserve a seat for the banquet is February 1st. The IHSWCA tries to avoid financial loss in holding the Hall of Fame Banquet. We do not try to make money on the banquet, but we do try to break even. This is impossible to do with the expenses of putting on a ‘first class’ ban36
quet.
