We help people, corporations and agencies improve the quality of life in our city and we serve as a catalyst for dialogue and action on critical issues. Established in 1999, we are among the more than 180 Community Foundations that are part of the Canadian movement for community vitality. Community Foundations help Canadians invest in building strong and resilient places to live, work and play. Through the expressed legacies of Burlington’s generous donors, we create permanent improvements in our community. Together, we are working to ensure the quality of life in Burlington is the very best in Canada.
We make giving easy Your donation can address a broad range of present and future needs. When you give, our community experts will work with you to ensure that your gift responds to Burlington’s most pressing needs. By creating a permanent endowment fund, interest earned will be used to support local charitable needs. Donations to your fund build the principal and continue to grow forever. There are five types of funds you can create to support local charitable initiatives.
Field of Interest You target your gift to address an important facet of community life that is of personal interest. We will assess and award grants to charitable organizations that are making a difference in the area you select.
Donor Advised You have ongoing involvement with your gift. Working with our professional grant making staff, you can identify ways to use available earned income from your fund to address the needs and issues you care about most.
Donor Designated You direct your gift to benefit a specific charity or group of charities. Our staff manages the distribution of funds.
Unrestricted You direct your gift to support the Foundation’s operations or other unrestricted funds. Your gift can address a broad range of charitable needs. Our experts can help ensure your unrestricted gift responds to Burlington’s most pressing needs.
Agency We also help Burlington charities manage or build a permanent endowment fund. We offer guidance and advice regarding the financial tools to set up a fund and build awareness within the community.
How we’re serving the people of Burlington We’re inspiring generous donors to build funds that support vital community needs today and in the future. By bringing together people from all parts of our community, we’re stimulating new ideas, building participation and strengthening Burlington philanthropy. We’re proud of our accomplishments, such as: •Moving seniors out of chronic isolation by providing access to critical social programs. •Leading support for local museums to preserve rare artifacts and oral histories, as well as helping to enrich our arts sector. •Cultivating leaders of tomorrow by connecting promising students to higher education through our scholarship funds. •Nurturing young children from lowincome families to learn, get fit and build self-confidence by participating in funded sports programs. •Improving water quality by bringing together partners to collaborate on replenishing Grindstone Creek through the removal of 500lbs of trash and planting native trees and shrubs.
