Finance Pay Mission Finance pay mission On 26 November 2012, Bravo Detachment set out on another great Finance Pay Mission. This mission took place in Hohenfels, Germany and we provided pay support to three European countries which included Croatia, Czech Republic, and Moldova. We were able to provide finance support to a USAEUR partnership training exercise and simultaneously develop our Mission Essential Tasks. This training also strengthened alliances and built upon partner competence and capability. This was an immense opportunity for our Finance Soldiers because missions like this only come so often and it’s a way for are Soldiers to display their critical finance skills and demonstrate professionalism to other Soldiers from Foreign Military’s. Our Soldier are able to react and serve customers of any nation on a short notice and do this with precision and professionalism.

Combat lifesaver training Nov. 16th we went to Kaiserslautern Germany to take part in recertification for the combat life savers course. For some of us, this was just a recertification, but for others, this was the first time they were going to be able to say they were a certified CLS. We all participated in lanes that consisted of 3-5 second buddy rushes, care under fire, tactical field care and combat evacuation care. We used a life size dummy, as well as actual people. This made the training more realistic and also more difficult. We were provided with all the necessary equipment to successfully treat our casualties. Each situation was different for every group, and the graders were far from easy going when it came to grading us on our skills. I believe with us being soldiers 24/7, this training is one of the most important things we can train on. You never know what situation you might find yourself in or who you might have to help one day. I learn so much every time I take part in this training and I am very grateful for that. -PFC Robotham

Senior Leader Course

Senior Leaders Course SSG Guidry As a Non Commissioned Officer the most important tool that we possess is knowledge. To make sure that we stay current and update on our trade we are fortunate enough to attend NCOES schools. I was allowed the honor to attend the Senior Leaders Course in Fort Jackson South Carolina. The 36B Senior Leader Course is tailored for the technical aspects of a Financial Management Technician. Myself and a group of my peers were able to get together and learn both new and up and upcoming programs to be used as a Finance technician. This course lasted for six weeks and included classes such as, PPBE, FISCAL LAW, and manually filling out a SF 1219. As a shock to most the class was student lead which required a lot of studying and teamwork. We managed to pull together and help each other out. During the course we also were taught how to better ourselves as leaders and use the tools available to become better leaders. While in the Senior Leaders course we got the opportunity to help honor a long time leader in the finance community as he retired. Col. Troy Clay retired after 28 years of service to our nation and the finance community. I was honored to stand in the formation and witness such a great thing. It’s not everyday that we get to attend these NCOES schools so when given the chance we should always take what we can out of it and give all we have to it. The knowledge and information that is passed on to us is meant to be passed on to our junior Soldiers. So I would advise all Non Commissioned Officers to come back from these schools and share the wealth for as our junior soldiers; they are the future of the Army.

A Month at the Connelly Detail What seemed to be a long month ahead of us is now a mission complete. The first day was hectic to say the least; we settled in our accommodations and claimed our individual space. We anticipated the extreme physical workout by climbing up four flights of stairs to our barracks room with all our gear. Connelly detail was a very physical one however we did it as a team and the logistics were all taken care of. I couldn’t ask for a better roommate and team mate, PFC Whyte. Everything flowed together with respect and a certain amount of fun. We had a common interest to do sporadic trips to Popeye’s and the constant exodus to the DFAC. We enjoyed it all. The detail itself consisted of digging holes and foxholes, building gazebos, walls, signs and trenches. In addition to that, we had to set up the temporary kitchen (KP), prepare food and served food to other units, and conduct a cleaning schedule which includes washing dishes and equipments. I learned about the process in preparing the food for the troops and how the time frame was planned. The Food Service Specialist, 92G amazed me on how organized, hygienic orientated they strictly cared about our safety. At the end, PFC Whyte and I were relieved that the detail went along better than expected, sharing good times with great people and being led by great NCOs. By -SPC Vittorio Rapizza
