From the Editor

Here in Fiji, the subtle signs of the rainy season are beginning to appear Showers are becoming more frequent, and rain clouds often gather in the distance And with this change in the weather comes one of the most anticipated times of the year the mango season

One of the greatest joys of living in Fiji is being able to enjoy tropical fruits and vegetables as each season arrives. They are always fresh, full of flavor, and bursting with natural sweetness.

Back in my country, I grew up in an environment where fruits and vegetables were perfectly shaped, carefully packaged, and neatly displayed in supermarkets. That is why the sight of freshly harvested produce piled high at Fiji’s local markets brings me such excitement and delight.

Among all the seasonal treats, mango season is my absolute favorite Lasting only about three months, it is short but sweet I savor the ripe, juicy mangoes, but also enjoy the younger green ones, seasoned with chili, Tajín, and a pinch of salt It has become part of my daily routine during this season (A Fijian friend once told me that if a mango tree bears fruit twice in a year, it means there will be more rain I still wonder if that’s true!)

From this island where life is lived in harmony with nature, I am truly grateful to be able to share this magazine once again. May these pages bring you a taste of Fiji’s charm and inspire you to experience its beauty for yourself.

COLUMN “FijiLife”

One of the things I feel most strongly while living in Fiji is just how incredibly kind this country is to children

Of course, children are treated with care everywhere in the world, but having traveled to many countries, I can say that nowhere have I felt such genuine warmth toward children as I do here in Fiji.

When people see children, their faces naturally light up with smiles. Even if a child makes a little noise at the supermarket or in a restaurant, no one glares or looks annoyed More often than not, people will come over and strike up a conversation. And if a child gets fussy or spills a drink, the reaction is usually a gentle laugh and the simple phrase: “This is kids.”

At the market, I’ve often experienced vendors slipping in extra vegetables “for the children,” or peeling off a bunch of bananas and handing it directly to them

My own children are quite shy, so sometimes they don’t know how to react to such gestures But I believe that these small acts of kindness will remain in their hearts as unforgettable memories

Another striking aspect is that when a child is in danger or doing something they shouldn’t, it’s not only the parents who step in any nearby adult will immediately say, “Careful!” or “Stop!” In Fiji, the idea that children are raised by the whole community runs deep, and you can feel this strong sense of collective responsibility in everyday life.

Here, it’s not just parents but the entire community that looks after children. That warmth and strength of Fiji’s communal spirit is something that gives me reassurance every single day

BULACCINO CAFE

WHERE FIJI’S FLAVOR AND LIFESTYLE COME TOGETHER

Founded in 2006 along the riverbanks of Nadi Town, Bulaccino Café began as a small, humble bakery and kitchen.

What started with a simple dream has since grown into one of Fiji’s most beloved cafés a place that truly embodies the island’s warmth and natural spirit. From the very beginning, Bulaccino has stayed true to its philosophy:to value natural ingredients and create everything possible by hand That dedication still defines the brand today.

Now located inside the newly opened Nadi Plaza, Bulaccino also operates its own Bulaccino Garden Farm in the foothills of the Sleeping Giant mountains. Spread across 30 acres of lush farmland, the property includes fruit orchards, vegetable gardens, herb beds, beehives, tilapia ponds, and small livestock pens.

More than 50 staff members work on the farm, and the fresh produce harvested there is used directly in the café’s kitchen.

From bread and sauces to burger patties and honey, nearly everything is crafted in-house allowing guests to taste the true, unprocessed flavor of Fiji.

The café itself has an airy, open design that invites both locals and travelers to linger.

Its house-roasted coffee, made primarily from Fijian beans, fills the air with a rich aroma, while the menu features smoothie bowls, eggs Benedict, and vibrant tropical fruit juices each dish bursting with freshness.

Located just minutes from Nadi Airport, the café is the perfect stop for a relaxed breakfast or mid-morning break before or after your flight.

For locals, it’s also become a familiar part of daily life a friendly space to unwind after work or gather with family on weekends.

A CAFÉ THAT GROWS WITH ITS COMMUNITY
