About Innovation Academy

Innovation Academy is community programming from Building Momentum. Offerings include camps and after-school classes, field trips, private lessons, and birthday parties. All of our programs aim to empower young people, grow their confidence, and increase their interest in STEAM subjects in a safe and fun atmosphere. Innovation Academy grows participants’ interest in STEAM through hands-on exploration, building, and problem-solving.

Building Momentum
Building Momentum has been training the Department of Defense with Innovation Boot Camp since 2014, bringing 21st century technology to active-duty service members all over the world. This same training has become the cornerstone of the bespoke offerings that we make to schools, community groups, and corporate clients through Innovation Elevated and Innovation Academy. Through our work, Building Momentum lives out our mission to solve problems creatively, efficiently, and empathetically and to inspire and empower our clients and community to do the same for themselves.






Camps & Classes
Our camps and classes empower kids and teens to safely and correctly use tools to stretch their imaginations. At Innovation Academy, participants engage in hands-on building while improving problem solving and communication, giving them lifelong skills. Whether tackling projects or challenges, they will work in a highly collaborative environment and form bonds with their peers.

Field Trips
Project Based Learning takes on a whole new meaning at Building Momentum!

We work with Public/Private/ Home School instructors to create unique and incredible experiences for your students across the K-12 grad bands.

Launching into Learning
Grade: K
Laser Cut Catapults
Students spark their curiousity as they observe a laser cutter in action. Later, they get hands-on, building catapults and testing them as they prepare to launch into competition.

21st Century Cars
Grade: 2
Engineering Electric Cars
Students learn the engineering design process and put it to work, designing and constructing electronic cars in preparation for a friendly competition.
Coding Launchpad
Grade: 3
Coding Drones
Students learn to code drones to move autonomously using the Blockly code blocks software as they prepare to complete on a high-stakes aerial obstacle course.
Flight School
Grade: 6+
Build a Tethered Drone with a MicroController
Students learn to bring together propellers, motors, and electronic circuits alongside code they write to create custom crafts.
Kid Powered Raceway
Grades: 4 and 5
Slot Car Energy Transfer
Students engage in a Slot Car activity to learn about kinetic energy, electrical energy, and energy transfer. After designing their cars, teams test them on a track.
Build The Moon
Grade: 1
3D Printed Moon Demo
Students learn about 3D printing, computer aided design, and the moon’s orbit as they prepare to assemble a model of the lunar phases.
Not Just Teslas Anymore
Grade: 3
Soldering Electric Cars
Students take the engineering design process to the next level, soldering wires together to establish the circuitry for their cars.
Laser Dinosaurs!
Grade: 5
Laser Cutting and Model Making
Students create dinosaur fossil and plate techtonic models in Adobe Illustrator and bring those models to life using a high powered laser cutter for assembly by the student.
Welded Sustainabilty
Grade: 6
Welding a Waterwheel
Students concieve, design and weld a waterwheel to create a sustainable power solution - all while learning about power transfer and electricity.
