Our required essay will allow you to express yourself outside of grades, courses, and test scores. Your academic credentials and list of achievements give us information about part of your life, but your essay will provide us with information not requested elsewhere in the Application for Admission. We would like you to write a 300 to 500 word personal statement. The topic should be of genuine interest to you (e.g., a person who has influenced you, a significant experience, personal goals). Keep in mind that this is an admission’s essay and not an “opinion piece.” Your essay should include the qualities of good writing such as grammar, spelling and structure. Please include essay on an attached separate shee. PORTFOLIO A portfolio of your work will help us to understand how you express yourself creatively. If applicable, please submit a portfolio of your artistic endeavors either in the Craft Specialization or in other artistic areas (e.g., photography). Your portfolio should have pictures showing your work in progress, including the design or layout, needed supplies and/or equipment, you working on the project, a brief description with each picture, an approximate summary of your time and cost, and the finished piece of work. As some students may not have a record of their artistic work, a meeting with the Dean is required with no submitted portfolio. The portfolios become a permanent part of your admission file and will not be returned.
