knocked down or assembled, and many dealers report a brisk do-it-yourself business developing on the K.D. kits. The distributor also provides range hoods, built-in appliances and counter tops at regular dealer discounts.
In addition to its complete stock of kitchen cabinets and accessories, a large stock is maintained of other Morgan woodwork products. These include louver doors and folding louver and flush door units, entrances, blinds and shutters in a wide variety of designs and sizes. There are more than 30 products in the Morgan line, and Tahoe maintains most of them in stock.
One of the most successful sales promotion efiorts staged bv the distributor was the exhibit at the California State Fair in Sacramento the first of September. Tahoe supplied the exhibit space and installed an attractive birch kitchen. Dealers were invited to help man the booth, and sales leads were turned over to the dealers for followup. A large number of sales resulted.
The exhibit was a big success and attracted much interest from homeowners. Although three other kitchen exhibits were featured at the Fair, dealers were convinced that the distinctive Morgan flush type, contour-styled cabinets had the greatest public acceptance.
Tahoe also exhibited at the Yolo Countv Fair in WoodIand and experienced good consumer reaction.
Mr. Gordon says: "Even greater effort will be expended next year in home shows and county fairs, and we have ordered space for a booth at the State Fair that will be 150/o larger than this year's exhibit. We have found that Morgan Kitchens will sell themselves when the public has a chance to examine and compare their quality with other kitchens. We plan to stress this kind of proven sales promotion during the coming year,"
In addition to these efrective sales promotion activities, Tahoe backs its dealers with regional advertising in newspaper and radio. Television is planned for a later date.
Dealers are invited to call on Tahoe sales and merchandising experts for assistance in specific sales problems and presentations. Ed Frye, kitchen consultant, heads up the Tahoe merchandising staff, which is being increased to keep pace with the rapidly expanding distribution pattern. Morgan woodwork products are offered exclusively to retail lumber dealers and kitchen specialists.
Tahoe Millwork Co. has covered a lot of ground in five months, but feels that the surface has just been scratched. Further dealer expansion will be pushed and, along with this expansion, additional merchandising manpower will be added to help dealers do a better sales promotion job.
"Many important dealer territories are still available," Mr. Alsaker maintains, "and we will open them as quickly as we can cover all the bases. We have stressed building a close-knit dealer organization here in the Sacramento Valley and Northern San Joaquin Valley where we can work closely with our dealers. This area is now pretty well firmed up, and we're about ready to open other areas, and it will be our plan to work closely with our dealers in these ateas, too."
And judging by the methodical way Tahoe has progressed this far, they will !
