Weyerhoeuser Exponsion
Weyerhaeuser Company will open a new wood products distribution warehouse this fall to serve the greater Buffalo marketing area, it has been announced by Vice President John L. Aram.
The 30,000-square-foot building is now under construction in the Buffalo Industrial Park. It will serve as a distribution center for Weyerhaeuser plywood, lumber and manufactured panel products as well as hardwood doors.
C. R. llenderson, formerly manager of distribution centers at Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, has been appointed wood products division manager for the Buffalo area.
"The new warehouse demonstrates our faith in the continuing growth of the Buffalo area," Aram stated, "and will also provide better service to our customers."
Seiling The Record Slroight
The California Redwood Association, perhaps because their product is so resistant to decay, has given advice to a doctor who gives advice to people worrying about their teeth.
Burton H. Fern, M.D., writer of a column called "'Inside You and Yours," distributed by King Features, told his readers in a recent column "decay spreads through the leathery tooth pulp like termites in a California redwood" after exposure to lactic acid.
A member of CRA's staff read the column and choked on his redwood toothPick. Recovering, he informed Dr. Fern that his figure of speech would cause confusion in the Redwood Region, where every citizen knew a termite would never take more than one bite out of the heart of any of their Sequoia semPervirens -let alone spreading through one like decay through leathery tooth pulp.
"If lactic acid causes tooth decay to spread 'through the leathery tooth PulP like termites in a California redwood' " the CRA's letter to Dr. Fern read, "we'll have to look elsewhere for the cause of decay. Termites just don't cause damage to redwood -though perhaps lactic acid does damage teeth."
The CRA went on to inform the doctor that redwood is one of the few woods in the United States known to be naturally resistant to termites. It ended with a plaintive appeal to correct the misapprehension caused by the smile in a future column, should an apportunity arise.
Perhaps Dr. Fern, in a future column, could say something like "Clean teeth resist decay like the heartwood of California redwood ."
