The industry's unfilled order file stood at 910,660,000 b.f. at the end of April, gross stocks at 657,336'000 b.f.

Lumber shipments of 483 mills reporting to the National Lumber Trade Barometer were 3.0 per cent below production for the r,r'eek ended May 5, 1951. In the same week new orders of these mills were 14.2 per cent below production. Unfilled orders of the reporting mills amounted to 62 per cent of stocks. For reporting softwood mills, unfilled orders were equiv:rlent to 28 days' prodtlction at the current rate, and gross stocks were equivalent to 42 days' production

For the year-to-date, shipments of reporting identical nrills rvere 7 '4 per cent above production ; orders rvere 9'5 per cent above production.

Compared to the average corresponding rveek of 19351939. production of reporting mills u'as 79.2 per cent above; slripments were 64.7 per cent above; orders 'n'ere 46.3 per cent above. Compared to the corresponding u'eek in 1950, production of reporting mills lvas 7.1 per cent allove ; shipments rn'ere 10.7 per cent belor,v;and nerv orders rvere 15.3 per cent belorv.

The Western Pine Association for the r'veek ended May 12. 108 mills reporting, gave orders as 69,O22'0W feet, shipments 67,849,W0 feet, and production 70,873,W0 feet. Orders on hand at the end of the week totaled 241,630'000 feet.

D. D. McCallum

Duncan D. I\IcCallum, 61, passed a\vity stlddenly on May 8 at Hana on the Island of l\{aui r,vhile on vacation with Mrs. McCallum in Hawaii.

He rvas associated with the sash and cl<lor busincss siltcc he came to Los Angeles in 1911, and in 1929 established his own business operating as D. D. McCallum Inc. Several months ago he sold his business and retired.

He was a member of the Jonathan Club, Santa Anita Turf Club, and Lumbermen's Post of the American Legion.

Besides his l'ido'ir', Mrs. Edna Mary McCallum, he is survived by two brothers, Muir and Eugene McCallum of Detroit. Mich.

Mernorial services \vere held on May 16 at the Church of the Recessional. Forest Larvn Memorial Park. Glendale.
