Building permits issued by the city of San Francisco during the month of April totaled $7,D9,451, which was the biggest month on record. ** *

With a capacity of 4,083,00O barrels covering an area greater than two city blocks, the largest storage reservoir ever built has just been completed for the Pan American Petroleum Company at Lomita. The roofing materials were furnished by the Pioneer Paper Company of Los Angeles. 't**

The Long-Bell Lumber Company on May 3 placed in operation its second.mill unit at Longview, Wash.

Members of the Orange County Lumbermen's Club will act as hosts this year at the annual picnic of the Southern California branch of the State Retailers' Association. The picnic will be held at Orange County Park on June 5.

Two fliers, W. F. Matlock and Howard Batt, stunt fliers for the movies, lost their way in a flight from Bakersfield to Los Angeles and were picked up by the steamer Hamlin F. McCormick.

The monthly meeting of the Sacramento Valley Lumbermen's Club on April 17 was designated as a Service Meeting for the "Men Who Meet the Trade." lM. H. Haines, Standard Oil Company, Sacramento, gave an instructive talk on "Service."

W. C. Connor, formerly of Houston, Texas, has opened offices in San Francisco and will act as Pacific Coast agent for the Chicago and Central Eastern Illinois Railway Co.
