Reorganizing railroad comPanY Santa Fe Southern Pacific CorP. has agreed to sell its Northern California timber business to Sierra Pacihc Industries, Redding, Ca.

The sale of subsidiary Santa Fe Pacifrc Timber Co., which includes 520,000 acres of timberland, is a move toward restructuring the parent firm. Also planned are the sales of their railroad, commercial real estate holdings, pipelines and construction operations.

Sierra Pacific operates milling facilities throughout the general area of Santa Fe's timberlands and has been a major purchaser of the timber allotted for sale each year.

"We could not aflord to lose that supply," said A.A. "Red" Emmerson, Sierra Pacifrc president. "This is not a cut and run situation. With prudent timber management, which includes proper re-forestation activity, our mills will have a sound timber supply for years to come."

Santa Fe Pacific Timber Co., a forest management comPanY without any forest products manufacturing facilities, has derived its basic income from the sale of timber from the 520,000 acres located in ten interior counties of Northern California.
