Hold Me Tight

Barrett Manufacturing Co. has introduced a new fastener kit featuring a multi-drive slotted hex washer head screw.

Each kit includes 100 slotted hex washer head l0 x I sheet metal screws, 100 plastic conical 10 x I anchors for masonry and dry wall use, and one l/4" x 4" deep flute carbide drill bit. The kit is packaged in a durable plastic carrying case which separates screws and anchors.

Combination slotted and hex washer head screws can be driven with a standard flat blade screwdriver, socket wrench or motor driven nut driver.

Furniture Facelift

Two wood finishing products are new from Minwax Co., an antique refinisher and a tung oil finish. Both provide a two-step refinishing system for any type of wood surface.

The antique refinisher is said to dissolve shellac, lacquer and other old finishes without stripping. The tung oil finish reportedly penetrates deeply into wood pores to restore vitality, while providing a hard finish with a low luster.

Bug Off

A new latex paint coating designed to kill bugs shortly after contact, has been introduced by Barrier Coatings, Inc.

The anti-bug paint is US EPA registered for both interior and exterior use on walls, ceilings, woodwork, wallpaper, paneling, masonry, concrete, tiles and on non-food contact surfaces.

The paint applies like any latex paint with a roller, brush or spray. During the drying and curing process, active insecticidal particles move to the surface. This creates a thin. drv iilm of insecticide crysrals locked into the paint surface.

The product is said to be effective against most crawling and flying insects, yet safe to humans and pets, but cannot be used on surfaces in direct contact with food or animal feed. Available in flat or glossy clear finish, it is packaged in cases of quart and gallon cans.

Heavy Weight Mounting

Two new heavy weight hinges by McKinney Manufacturing Co. can be used for mounting extra heavy doors.

Available in 8" x 6" and 8" x 8". they are reversible for right and left hand applications. The three-knuckle pieces are designed to install lead lined and heavy doors up to 600 lbs. eliminating the need for floor pivots.

The parts feature ball thrust bearings for vertical loads and needle radial bearings for horizontal loads. Including removable pins, they are packed with fasteners for full mortise application and templates can be obtained upon request.

Waterproof Sealer

Red Devil, Inc. offers a new ButYl rubber sealant that meets full federal specifications. Each 10.3 fl. oz. cattridge can produce as much as 50 ft. of 3/16" beading.

Designed for use below grade and wherever a waterproof flexible seal is desired, its high adhesion properties allow the product to be aPPlied to most clean construction surfaces, including wood, metal, concrete, brick and pvc.

Dispensed white, the sealant can be painted after curing and stays flexible in temperatures ranging from 40'F to +225"F. Mineral spirits are used for cleanup before the product cures.

Bug Blaster

A new hand-held granule spreader from PBI-Gordon Corp. is designed for quick and easy application of herbicides. insecticides or other granular products.

Easy Sliding

A new slide by Grant Hardware Co. with a load capacity of up to 75 lbs. per pair is designed for a variety of applications including kitchen cabinets, and furniture.

Made of cold rolled steel, zincplated with a clear chromate finish, it is available in lengths from 12" to 28", as well as non-standard sizes.

The slide features pan head screws for easy installation and a protective bearing shield to guard against dust and finishing sprays. The sidemounted product requires onlY l/2" side space.

Three variations on the basic model are available: self-closing, rear-mount and a combination of the two.

Compact Heating System

A new forced air heating system, the Register, by Cadet Manufacturing Co. is a compact zonal system designed for either conventional or modular construction.

The system does not require furnace or ductwork and operates quietly. Its low placement, just 4 l/4'from the floor, makes it versatile and unobtrusive. With each room controlled by its own thermostat, the system can also be used as a complement to passive solar designs.

The 14 " x 7 3/8" neutral finished wall grill completes the unit which comes with 20 gauge wire-through wall mounting can and integral junction box. The system is said to be easy to install on new as well as on retrofit installation.

Blows Hot AirAway

A new series of Spinnaker Paddle fans has been introduced by NuTone for use in rooms with low ceilings.

Pre-assembled for easy installation, they are combined with lighting which can be used together or separately. A reversing switch helps to direct air flow up or down.

Available in four different models, the series features 3-speed fans with a pull+hain switch, a separate light pull<hain, genuine teakwood fan blades, and a hang-straight mounting for smooth operation.

Long-Lasting Bond

Developed for use on outdoor pro- jects built with wood, Woodmate treated wood and deck adhesive is new from Ohio Sealants. Inc.

The product is said to form a strong, lasting bond that actually outlasts the wood itself. Applied with a caulking gun, the adhesive is unaffected by moisture, low temperatures, and freeze-thaw cycles. It bonds to almost any surface including concrete, masonry, brick, stone or metal.

Available in I I oz. and quart-size caulking cartridges, it can be used by professionals as well as do-it-yourselfers.

Brick Look.A.Like

Pan-Brick, Inc. has introduced a new siding with a brick finish look and high insulation capability.

The 16" x 48" panels combine actual clay brick facing with plywood sheathing, polyurethane insulation and integral mortar joints. They can be applied directly to wood or steel studs without adhesives or sealants.

Each panel weighs 35 lbs., resulting in an overall weight of about 3 tons for a three-bedroom house.

Spa Talk

Two acrylic spas and a new brownred color are new from AmericanStandard.

Monaco is a rectangular shaPe portable spa with a full lounger and a bucket seat. Measuring 88 3/4" x 60" x 27 l/4", its water capacity is 120 gallons. Designed for two adults, it has a redwood deck and surround.

Boca-Raton is a circular shaped inground spa with a diameter of 80" and an internal depth of 38 ". Water capacity is 350 gallons. Designed for indoor or outdoor use, it can hold up to six adults. It has colorcoordinated ceramic tile trim and a ?A hr. pro' grammable time clock.

Cool, Clean Water

A compact reverse osmosis filter that snaps on and off a common kitchen faucet is new from Ametek. The unit's replaceable membrane is said to remove up to 9890 of various dissolved minerals and unseen solids while providing up to three gallons per day of high quality drinking water.

Featuring a lightweight, compact size, the filter is designed for use by renters, vacationers, condo and mobile homeowners or in any kitchen. It is to be used with chlorinated water only.

Keyhole-Style Slots

A new hang-slot router bit from Vermont American offers the oppor- tunity to cut smooth, accurate keYhole-style slots in wall hangings. The bit can be used with Picture frames, mirrors, shelving, cabinets, and support fixtures. The precisionmade tool makes a 3/8" entry hole and a recessed slot for positive hold with headed fastener.

Roof Shadows

A 30-year prorated warranty is now available for Woodland Roof fiber glass shingles from Manville.

A three-dimensional fiber glass shingle, it produces deep shadows previously obtainable only with wood shakes or shingles. The mat is said to be penetrated and coated with 75qo more weatherproofing asphalt than conventional shingles. Class A frerated and wind-resistant, they are approved for use with staples.

Easy Change

No screwdriver or other tool is required to change the blade of the new Swivel-Lock knife by Stanley.

The two sides of the knife are held together with a button lock at the base of the handle and a swivel rivet at the center. Depressing the button unlocks the case and the side of the case can be swung open to remove the blade. Depressing the opposite end of the button locks the case. The sides interlock at the front to hold the blade firmly in place.

The die<ast aluminum body of the tool is curved for a comfortable grip.

Heavy Weight Clamp

A shelving support system designed to hold up to l00lbs. is new from the Panel Clip Co.

Made of heavy 16 gauge zinc coated gold colored steel, it can be used in heavy storage areas such as g:uages, basements and workshops as well as living areas. The clamp can be painted if desired.

Sized for 5,/8 " particleboard, the product is packaged in blister packs, two per card with four screws or in 200 piece bulk cartons.

Southern California through the 1950s. Both were involved as officers in the Pacific Coast Wholesale Hardwood Distributors Association. Bob also served as a director of the National Hardwood Lumber Association.

In the fall of 1956, fire destroYed the complete plant and inventorY. Under the guidance of Bill Moore, a third generation member of the family, new stock was beginning to arrive the next day. The three, as a team' laid out plans to rebuild. After a lengthy clean up period, the new facilities were completed with capacity to warehouse under cover over 2 million board feet of lumber. A complete mill was set up to run all tYPes of millwork.

Bill Moore took over as President after organizing the new plant. His involvement in purchasing and sales under Bob Thenzer's guidance gave him a strong base, augmented bY his dedication and intimate knowledge of the business. He has been active, coordinating purchasing, manufacturing and sales with his team of employees. His reputation for honesty and ability is respected industrY-wide.

Bob Tbenzer is celebrating his 9oth birthday this year and continues to be involved in planning and running the company. His grandson, Robert Kincaid, a vice president, shares an office with him, absorbing more of his grandfather's experience every day.

Kincaid points out that the management is continually working to keep up with changes in equiPment and material handling. Managers keep directly involved on a day to day basis to fine tune the oPerations. Younger employees joining the team contribute new enthusiasm and technical background. The companY is proud that it is one of the few hardwood firms employing a woman on the order desk.

A good mix of young and well seasoned employees assures customers of qualified assistance. Many of their employees have worked for the com-

Alive And Well

The September issue carried a story (See Sept. issue, p.3l) that is not correct and we will very much appreciate your correction of this.

In 1970 our company retired from the active wholesale distributing business and we w€re very proud to arrange with the Lane Lumber Co. to take over our sales organization and the inventory at that time, We were also very proud to have them include our name in their own, as Lane-Stanton Lumber Co. at that time, later the Lane Stanton Vance Lumber Co.

We were not "acquired" and are very much alive and doing very well in our present business style. We are mostly in metal products at this time and mostly as a representative of manufacturers in OEM products. We still retain our membership in the NHLA which is now in its
