Douglas Warren Grant, 63, former owner of Doug Grant Trucking, Arcata, Ca., died July 1 in Hydesville, Ca.

Born in Ukiah, Ca., he operated a lumber and log hauling company before founding the fucking company in the 1960s. He was also a partner in Gran-Star, a redwood fence manufacturer in nearby Eureka.

A.D. Adkins, 78, retired sales mgr. for Wetsel-Oviatt Lumber Co.. Folsom, Ca., died July l3 in Sacramento, Ca.

Born in Glen Mora, La., he was a lumber inspector for the Western Wood Products Association, Portland, Or., before joining Wetsel-Oviatt in 1953. He retired in 1990.

Wood Panels Deemed Safe

Structural wood panels do not release dangerous levels of formaldehyde gas, according to a report by APA-The Engineered Wood Association.

During chamber tests, the panels, which are made with waterproof phenol formaldehyde adhesives, remained extremely stable with emissions approaching zero levels.

The results of the chamber tests agree with those conducted by other laboratories.

Outlawed Door In Redesign

Peachtree Doors is redesigning its Newport fiberglass entry door following a U.S. District Court ruling that existing design elements infringed on a patent of competitor Therma-Tru.

Peachhee has been enjoined from marketing doors incorporating certain design elements after Oct. 26, 1995, after which the company will introduce a redesigned fiberglass door.

"We are disappointed with the legal outcome, having thought we had won the case in 1991. However, our ongoing product development has carried us beyond the designs in question. We can now focus our resources on serving our loyal customers and on marketing the redesigned product rather than disputing seven-year-old designs," said Ken Waldron, president of Caradon Doors & Windows Group, manufacturer of Peachtree products.

Ace Elects Peterson Director

Roger E. Peterson, retired president and ceo of Ace Hardware Corp., has been elected to the board, becoming the group's first non-dealer, nonemployee director.

He was elected a month after his retirement to capitalize on his experience as president and in running the $2.5 billion corporation.

Wholesaler Becomes Retailer

After six years of having its business split into two cramped locations across the street from each other, Random Pacific Building Materials, Albany, Or., has moved to a new I 6,000-sq. ft. facility.

But co-owners Rick Haatvedt and Jim Runkle have changed more than the location since taking over the business in 1993.

It had been a lumber and plywood wholesaler called Random Pacific Wholesale Lumber & Plywood. Now the business is a construction materials contractor and retailer. They added a mini hardware store at the front of the new office for caulking, nails, insulation and wood products.
