Mortgage bankers generally. favor the Administration proposal to consolidate todayos proliferation of housing legislation. But, they warn that, without parallel action by the states, important areas of the nation could be cut ofi from mortgage credit for as much as three years.
Home finance industry views were aired in hearings in which the Senate Subcommittee on Housing and Urban Affairs considered the HUD-sponsored Mortgage Credit fusistance Act. The bill would drop re{erences to FHA, but promises to continue that agency's programs under the consolidation.
Everett C. Spelman, a Denver mortgage banker and vp. of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, said present complexities discourage mortgage investors but, "We caution the Congress to take great care . lest the desirable present law be swept away with the undesirable."

Plans for rebuilding their headquarters, destroyed by fire last year, have been announced by the J. E. Higgins Lumber Co. It will insure continuance of their almost 90 years in San Francisco.
James W. Higgins, president, announced construction of a headquarters and general offices building on the San Francisco site Higgins has had since 1940, adjacent to the existing warehouse and mill.
It will inventory hardwoods and other lugrber products for San Francisco, Marin and San Mateo counties. The Sacramento and Union City yards service the rest of northern California. A new kind of meeting was recently held by San Francisco's Hoo-Hoo Club.
Some thirty members celebrated a Day at the Races at the Bay Meadows Track in San Mateo.

The Robertson method of installation employs a new type of double face tape. Robertson's "slip lok" tape method gives the do-it-yourselfer time to adjust the carpet-fit until the adhesive on the tape begins to take hold. He gains the extra time by ap- plying adhesive deactivator to the tape.

It's Squore
Buckingham Graphics designed and introduced the L-square. The L-square is like a T-square except that it has one shoulder.
By inverting the L-square and locking it against the left edge of a light table or drawing board, the instrrrment automatically comes to a level depressed 15 degrees below horizontal. A combination of perfect angles can be achieved with the use of a simple triangle and the L-square.
L-square is made of annodized aluminum. The hardened metal edge is impervious to razor nicks and dents from dropping. The die-cut design insures that the right angle squareness and the 15 degree feature are locked in.
