Officials of SECOFI, a Mexican govemment agency that regulates imports, received a four-hour primer on how U.S. lumber is graded, the quality conEol system used bY American mills, the end uses of specific structural products and how to identify products using grade stamps.

P&M Closes Anderson Mill

Timber constraints are forcing P&M Cedar Products, Stockton, Ca., to close its Anderson, Ca., sawmill July 15 and consolidate operations at its McClouG Ca., facility.

At McCloud, incense cedar will be cut along with other species and a second shift added.

Originally acquired from Hudson Lumber Co. in 1985 for its dry kiln caprcity, the Anderson mill had been in continuous operation since 1986, primarily producing incense cedar pencil stock.

P&M's office, wood components division and dry kilns in Anderson will rennin open.
