E-Trading Excess Inventory

Add Georgia-Pacific and Weyerhaeuser Co. to the growing list of companies choosing to sell idle assets Or excess inventory on the Internet.

The industry giants are among more than 30 Fortune 1000 companies currently hawking their wares on www.tradeout.com. an online marketplace that reportedly allows users to buy and sell a diverse selection of items in over 50 product categories in an auction-based, sealed-bid or fixedprice format.

"Wholesale companies spend a lot of time managing excess inventory, but are unable to maximize the sales revenue on these goods," said Brin McCagg, ceo and founder of TradeOut.com. "We provide a direct link to the largest possible buying audience and use the Internet to standardize and streamline the buying and selling process."

McCagg estimated that the exchange listed $25 million in idle assets and excess inventorv after its first three weeks.

Earl C. Swanson, 87, retired chairman and president, Andersen Corp., died May 2 in Bayport, Mn.

Milton Garth Wooley, 79, retired area manager, International Paper Co., Longview, Wa., died May 6.

A native of Culdesac, Id., he was a technical sergeant in the Army during World War II.

He began working for International Paper in 1937, eventually becoming area manager.

During his 43-year tenure in the lumber industry, he worked in mills in Washington, Oregon and California, before retiring in 1980.

He began working for Andersen in 1927 as a l6-year-old draftsman, rising to president in 1960 and chairman in 1975, before retiring in 1981, after 54 years.

He was a past president of the National Woodwork Manufacturers Association (since renamed the Window & Door Manufacturers Association) and also a board member of the Ponderosa Pine Wood Association.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II.
