Depot Tests New Redwood Product

Home Depot is expected to begin exclusive lesting in the fint half of this year of a new redwood product in San Diego, Ca. If succcssful, the limited test is expecrcd to be rolled out in the San Francisco Bay area later this year.

The product is a con common redwood that is treated and stained a unifonn color to rcsemble all heart redwood. A dye is added during the pressure teating process. A final color stain is applied after beatrnent. The wood is also waterprmfed. There are no incisor marks and application is for above ground use only.

While more expensive than treated hem-fit the new all heart lookalike is expected to be priced closer to con heart. The product was developed by Hickson Corporation and will be manufactured by Mendocino Forest hoducts.

If successful in test markes, it is anticipated the new line will be sold throughout the industry.

Andersen Acquires Morgan

Andersen Co.p. has acquired Morgan hoducts Ltd., Williamsburg, Va., the leading distributor of its wood windows and patio doors.

"This acquisition is consistent with our plan to strengthen our distribution system nationwide," said Andersen Corp. president and chief executive officer Donald L. Garafalo.

Morgan Products, a $7{0 million publicly held company with over 2,000 employees, became Andersen's leading distributor last month after its acquisition of Adam Wholesalers.

The sale is expected to close by mid-June. Andersen Corp. is a privately held company.

Diablo Wins Court Battle

CRA will award cash prizes of $3,000, $2,000 and$1,000. Deadline for entries is July 15.

Co-sponsoring the contest is Todayk Homeowner (formerly Home Meclunk), a consumer magazine with a national circulation of one million readers.

A Southern California jury has awarded Diablo Timber, Napa, Ca., over $137,(XX) from Cal Spas distributor and parent company Lloyd's Equipment, Pomona, Ca., to cover asyet-unpaid-for redwood shipments.

The jury also unanimously rejected Lloyd's cross-complaint alleging that Diablo and is owner, Ben Cassinerio, slandered Lloyd's/Cal Spas and breached an agreement to forgive the amount due.
