Georgia-Pacific opens western Sales Genter
Georgia-Pacific Corp.'s building products distribution division has opened its Western Sales Center in metro Denver, Co., and begun relocating sales operations for half the country to the facility.
The Denver Sales Center opened March 4 initially handling sales and procurement for the local market but by month's end taking over for San Fernando and Sacramento, Ca.; Salt Lake City, Ut., and Eugene, Or.
Northern California sales were relocated early this month from the Oakland DC. Products will be shipped to the area from a new 40acre Triad distribution center in Fremont, Ca.
G-P will gradually "roll in" the remaining 17 existing western region sales territories by the end of the year.
Once fully operational later this year, the new 71,000-sq. ft. Denver facility, patterned after the division's Eastern Sales Center in Atlanta, will be staffed by 350 employees. The national reconfiguration of all sales and logistics operations, begun in July 1994, allows G-P to provide more reliable service, broader product lines and extended hours. The two stateof-the-art sales centers will handle the divison's sales functions for the entire country and will be supported by a network of outside sales representatives in local markets.
Overseen by western regional sales manager Charley Hobbs, the Denver sales facility brings with it many new telephone, inventory control and sales management systems.
Denver also houses a building products logistics center. The warehouse facility is part of the division's new integrated logistics network of 64 strategically located warehouse and delivery points.
