David J. Latimer, 33, sales representative for Allweather Wood Treaters, Washougal, Wa., died of cancer March 19 in Lebanon. Or.

Born in Lebanon, he worked as a western sales representative for Osmose Wood Preserving before joining Allweather in 1993.

Mike Vidan, 51, v.p.-gypsum division for Georgia-Pacific, Atlanta, Ga., died of a heart attack March 4 while vacationing with his family.

A native of Portland, Or., he started with Georgia-Pacific in 1969 as part of the distribution division's sales team and rose to plywood purchasing mgr. before moving to Atlanta.

Miles Davidson, 86, former general mgr. of The Terry Cos., Tarzana, Ca., died of cancer March 20 in Westlake Village, Ca.

Born in Colorado, he ioined Sun Lumber Co., Los AngelesiCa., working his way up to exec. v.p. Sun Lumber was later sold to Lone Star Industries and he was named president ofthe western region. In June 1980, he joined The Terry Cos., retiring in t991.

Carroll "Kelly" W. Galley, 92, former division lumber sales mgr. of U.S. Plywood, Anderson, Ca., died Feb. 18.

William A. "Bill" Hancock, 61, retired western regional credit mgr. for Georgia-Pacific, died Feb. 28 in Alameda. Ca.

Born in Maywood, N.J., he joined Georgia-Pacific after graduating from college in1957, retiring in 1990.

Donald E. Nelson, 51, a partner in Pacific States Plywood, San Rafael, Ca.. died March 11 in San Rafael.

He worked for U.S. Plywood, San Rafael, for three years before joining Pacific States in 1972.

Jack Fairhurst, 77, founder and president of Fairhurst Lumber of California, Eureka, Ca., died Feb. 28 in Carlsbad, Ca.

Born in Tacoma, Wa,, he founded Fairhurst after WWII, retiring in 1985.

He was past president of the West Coast Lumber Association, a predecessor of WWPA. He was past president of the Ingomar Club, Eureka.

His uncle founded Fairhurst Lumber Co. of Oregon in the 1930s and his father later joined that company.

James G. Laier, 83, co-founder of Molalla Forest Products Co., Molalla, Or., died March 2 in Indian Wells. Ca. Born in St. Croix Falls, Wi., he moved to the Pacific Northwest to work for Pope and Talbot in 1932. About 1940, he co-founded Molalla Forest Products, moving the company to Cloverdale, Ca., in 1953.

In 1970, the Cloverdale mill was sold to Masonite Corp., and Laier joined Elk River Lumber Co., Eureka, Ca., to oversee its operations, retiring in his late seventies.

The Cloverdale mill was sold to Timber Realization Co. in 1982, Louisiana-Pacific in 1983 and auctioned and dismantled in 1995-96.
