Kentucky Lumber & Building Material Dealers Association is sponsoring a series of Bill Darling estimating seminars Sept. 11-15 in Bowling Green. The first day covers small project estimating. followed by a three-day estimating course and one day on effective quoting and bidding.

Southern Building Material Association will stage Bill Darling estimating clinics Sept. 25-29 at the Holiday Inn Central, Richmond, Va., and Oct. l0l2 at the Holiday Inn Express, Pineville (Charlotte), N.C.

Giants Ready Joint E-Business

Georgia-Pacific, International Paper and Weyerhaeuser Co. will go online with ForestExpress, their B2B e-commerce joint venture, in fourth quarter 20OO (see April, p. 38).

The three jointly have committed $51 million to the project and hope to enlist other strategic partners. Boise Cascade, Louisiana-Pacific, Mead and Willamette reportedly are considering joining.

Based in Atlanta, ForestExpress will operate as an independent company with its own management. Now under the guidance of a board drawn from the ranks of its founding partners, the company is searching for a chief executive. In the interim, Keith Russell, Boston Consulting Group, is serving in the ceo's role. Bob Renner, G-P director of e-commerce, is chief technology officer Services, initially focusing on building materials, printing and writing papers, recovered fiber and timber, will be open to all businesses that want to participate.

Chain Taps Web Partner

Payless Cashways and DlYonline. com agreed jointly to offer an e-commerce Web site for the pro market. DlYonline.com lets users design their own projects step-by-step, from compiling a list of materials needed to ordering the products directly from Payless Cashways for home delivery.

The site is being tested in several markets. before a chainwide roll-out.
