G-P Center For Southwest Sales

Georgia-Pacific Corp.'s building products distribution division has opened its Western Sales Center in metro Denver, Co., handling sales for half the country, including Texas and Oklahoma.

The Denver Sales Center opened March 4 initially handling sales and procurement for the local market but taking over for four other territories by month's end. G-P will gradually "roll in" the remaining l8 existing western region sales territories by the end ofthe year.

In the Southwest, G-P is expanding its Fort Worth, Tx., DC, to 377,OOO sq. ft. on 66 acres. h will be supported by additional warehousing and delivery operations in Lubbock, Houston and San Antonio, Tx.; Tulsa, Ok., and Shreveport, La. The warehouses will be significantly larger with a delivery radius of 150 miles (up to double the previous range). Existing warehouses in Arlington and Tyler, Tx., are being closed.

Once fully operational later this year, the new 71,000-sq. ft. Denver facility, patterned after the division's Eastern Sales Center in Atlanta will be staffed by 350 employees. The national reconfiguration of all sales and logistics operations, begun in July 1994, allows G-P to provide more reliable service, broader product lines and extended hours. The two state-of-the-art sales centers will handle the divison's sales functions for the entire country and will be supported by a network ofoutside sales representatives in local markets.

Overseen by western regional sales mgr. Charley Hobbs, the Denver sales facility brings with it many new telephone, inventory control and sales management systems.

Denver also houses a building products logistics center. The warehouse facility is part of the division's new integrated logistics network of 64 strategically located warehouse and delivery poins.
