HUSKIES IN THE NFL Jahri Evans On April 30, 2006 the New Orleans Saints selected Bloomsburg offensive tackle Jahri Evans (left) in the fourth round (108th overall) in the NFL draft. Evans was the first Bloomsburg player to be drafted since 1992, when Eric Jonassen was selected in the fifth round by the San Diego Chargers. Evans is a key figure in an offensive line that has ranked among the NFL’s best units since 2006 and surrendered the fewest sacks in the league over the last three years. An immediate starter since being drafted in the fourth round in 2006, Evans has gone from being a littleknown rookie to an established veteran now considered one of the NFL’s top right guards. Evans has started all 96 games of his NFL career which is the most for a Saints offensive lineman to begin his career and the second-most by a Saint overall. His games started streak is tied for fifth among active NFL guards. In the summer of 2010, Evans signed a seven-year, $56 million contract. He was a 2011, 2010 and 2009 Pro Bowl-starter, a three-time Associated Press All-Pro, Pro Football Weekly/Pro Football Writers of America Association All-NFL, and two-time The Sporting News AllPro. In 2011 he was named as one of the 100 Greatest Players in the NFL, ranking 34th. In 2006, he was recognized as Pro Football Weekly/ PFWAAll-Rookie and Dallas Morning News All-Rookie. Evans was a two-time All-American. In 2005, he helped lead the Huskies to an undefeated regular season and a PSAC East title. Eric Jonassen In 1992, tackle Eric Jonassen was selected in the fifth round by the San Diego Chargers. Jonassen played two years for the Chargers. In 1993, Jonassen played in all 16 games and started in two for the Chargers. His career ended after the 1993 season. At Bloomsburg, Jonassen was an All-American tackle. Mike Morucci Running back Mike Morucci was taken in the seventh round of the 1980 draft by the New Orleans Saints; however, his NFL career was cut short by injury. At Bloomsburg, he graduated as the Huskies and the PSAC all-time leading rusher. His Bloomsburg records stood until 1997 when they was broken by tailback Irv Sigler. Bob Tucker Bob Tucker was not drafted but joined the Giants as a rookie in 1970. He put together a solid 11-year career as a tight end. Tucker had 422 receptions for 5,421 yards and scored 27 touchdowns. In 1971, his 59 receptions ranked second in the league. At Bloomsburg, Tucker was an All-Pennsylvania Conference selection three times. He graduated with nine school receiving records and ranks fourth all-time at BU with 131 receptions. Bob Warner Running back Bob Warner was selected in the 13th round of the 1972 NFL draft by the Denver Broncos. Kreisser became the first Bloomsburg player to be drafted in the NFL when he was taken in the 27th round by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tom Donan Donan was the first Bloomsburg player to sign a pro contract when he inked with the Steelers in 1949. Injuries forced him to retire while in camp. Frank Luchnick Luchnick was the second Bloomsburg player to sign a pro contract. He signed with the Steelers and was invited to camp in 1949. 2013 Huskies Football 121
