woMen’s Track & field Preview/Roster After piling up 15 Patriot League indoor and 13 outdoor championships in league history, including a sweep of both titles in 2013, the Bison women are looking to bounce back from a pair of third-place finishes a year ago. Bucknell finished behind league newcomer Boston University and an improved Lehigh team in both meets, but in 2014-15 the Bison bring back plenty of talent, including 13 scorers from last spring’s PL outdoor meet, as they look to regain their perch atop the PL standings. “I believe last year was a tremendous learning experience for our women’s team. There’s a saying, ‘If you stay the same, then you will fall behind,’ and looking at the statistics of the 2014 team, we were as good as many of our previous championship teams. But Boston University added a new dynamic and Lehigh improved greatly. I believe that we will be much-improved in 2015 based on all of our returning talent, and we had a great recruiting year. Our women understand that the standard for success has now been set much higher, and we will be a much hungrier team.” SPRINTS/HURDLES.............................................................................................. Jennifer Zymet, who won seven Patriot League championships and broke seven school records, will be a tough sprinter to replace, but the Bison do bring back some talented speedsters in Kim Nagotko, Jess Bridle, Jenn Silvestri and Elyse Pettaway. Nagotko is the school record-holder in the outdoor 100-meter dash as well as the indoor and outdoor 200-meter dashes. Nagotko and Bridle were both part of the Bucknell record-setting outdoor 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Silvestri joined them on the indoor 4x400 relay quartet that also owns the school record. Silvestri and Chrissy Haney are two of the league’s top hurdlers. In fact, Bucknell had four scorers in the PL outdoor 400m hurdles last year, and they all return in Silvestri, Haney, Laura Papili and Seline Tan-Torres. Carli Lucke and Jamie Kenney are the top two first-year sprinters. MID-DISTANCE..................................................................................................... The Bison will have to replace graduated standouts Hana Casalnova and Emily Waksmunski in the middle-distance events, and sophomore Reagan Cerney headlines a young but talented group. Cerney was an ECAC qualifier in the 500m last year but missed the league meet due to an injury. Tan-Torres is a promising 400/800 competitor in addition to her duties as a hurdler. Betsy Edinger and Morgan Roche scored in the PL indoor 1000m, and Sarah Chandler returns from the 4x800 relay team that scored at ECACs last season. The top newcomer here is Christine Bendzinski, who ran a 4:49 in the 1600m in high school, one of the top 50 times in the country. DISTANCE............................................................................................................. Bucknell returns three ECAC qualifiers in the distance events in Deanna Godby (5K), Zoe Gaston (10K) and Becky Snelson (10K). Kate Scott missed the 2014 spring season due to injury but was an ECAC qualifier in the indoor 5000m and also a U.S. Junior National participant over the summer. Montana DiPietrantonio also missed the outdoor season with an injury after a strong indoor season, and the versatile Chandler and Kylie Pearse are the top returnees in the steeplechase. JUMPS................................................................................................................... Bucknell’s top returning jumpers are Megan Kirk, who scored with a seventhplace finish in the PL indoor high jump, long-jumper/high-jumper Devon McDonald and long-jumper Kim Lapszynski. Donner is pleased to welcome two very promising recruits in Efe Agege, a 39-foot triple jumper from Los Angeles, and Lauren Hudson, an all-state high jumper from New York. POLE VAULT.......................................................................................................... The Bison lost a pair of graduated seniors in All-Patriot Leaguer Emily Ando and Autumn Schellenberger, but they return two veterens in seniors Kristin Sundy and Yanelis Mestre. Mestre was a PL scorer two years ago and Sundy last year. Bucknell also welcomes one of the top prep pole vaulters in the country in Jenna Calandro, who comes in with a PR of 12’3”. THROWS............................................................................................................... Bucknell returns all of its top throwers this season, including Sophia Nnadi who scored in three different events (2nd shot put, 4th discus, 5th hammer throw) at the 2014 PL Outdoor Championships and also qualified for ECACs in all three events. Rebecca Skovira is a transfer from Navy who is now eligible after sitting out last year due to Patriot League transfer rules, and she is expected to be the team’s top javelin thrower. Dayna Simone scored in the javelin at Patriot Leagues last spring, and Stephanie Easse is a returning scorer in both the discus and javelin. Meg Sangimino also returns to give Bucknell a large contingent in the javelin. The team’s top two shot-putters are back in Nnadi and Abigail Brundage, who finished just behind Nnadi in third place at last year’s PL outdoor meet. Emily Fisher, an all-state discus thrower from Millerstown, Pennsylvania, is a top newcomer. MULTIS.................................................................................................................. In the multis, Devon McDonald and Hanna Greenfield both return, and they are joined by newcomer Alison Varano from nearby Mt. Carmel High School.
