Eric Balaban, David Strauss and Glen Williams each factored into the mix at the Patriot League Championships for the men. Williams started his year with an individual victory at the Bison Open and continued with another set of top-12 finishes before getting hit with the injury bug. He bounced back in time for the league meet but was not quite himself yet. Then a sophomore, Williams continued his comeback through the track season, running everything from 1,500 to 10,000 meters. Strauss and Balaban both ended their cross country seasons on a high note when they followed their league championship appearance by scoring at the Mid-Atlantic Championships. After a huge track campaign, Bucknell also hopes to look to runners like Montana DiPietrantonio for additional points. DiPietrantonio competed just three times during her last cross country season, but the junior was a bronze medal winner in the 10,000 meters at the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships and competed in the same event at the ECAC Championships a week later. She also inked her name among the program’s best in the 10K, ending the season with the seventh-fastest time in Bucknell history (36:33.77). In a similar boat to DiPietrantonio is Kylie Pearse for the women and Andrew Kuchta for the men. Pearse also competed just three times early in the fall, but went on to become one of Bucknell’s goto steeplechase runners. The junior is now sixth all-time in program history in the steeplechase (11:15.35), an event in which she scored at the Patriot League Championships and won at the UMBC Invitational, which was her first career outdoor meet. Kuchta was a top-50 finisher at the cross country league meet

With more races on his resume during his rookie season came better results. He eventually finished his year with an appearance at the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships where he finished 18th in the 5,000. Bucknell will get another shot at the Patriot League Championships in 2013 when it travels to Lafayette on Nov. 2. The men will be looking to improve on their showing from a year ago when they took fifth for a second consecutive season, while the women will be looking to end a streak of three straight second-place finishes. Before the championship season gets underway, however, the Bison will kick things off by hosting their annual home meet, the Bison Open, on Aug. 31. A number of their remaining meets will be close to home as well with the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State (Sept. 13) and Bloomsburg Invitational (Sept. 28) following in September and Lehigh’s Paul Short Invitational (Oct. 5) and Lafayette Leopard Invitational (Oct. 19) coming in October.
