Recent Summer Events/Results The summer months are an important time for Bison swimmers and divers to improve. Bucknell student-athletes have competed at a number of summer events in recent years, including the Charlotte UltraSwim, Mid-Atlantic Championships, USA Swimming National Championships and U.S. Olympic 2011 Charlotte UltraSwim (May 12-15, 2011 • Mecklenberg County Aquatic Center • Charlotte, N.C.) Bucknell Participants: Men: Thomas Brown, Billy Krause, Eric Sokolosky, Christian Treat. Women: Kelly Pontecorvo. Highlights: Sokolosky (100 fly, 100 free), Brown (100 back) and Treat (200 IM) finished in the top half of races. 2011 Mid-Atlantic Championships (July 20-23, 2011 • Kinney Natatorium • Lewisburg, Pa.) Bucknell Participants: Men: Thomas Brown, Mike Davitt, Billy Krause, Stephen McMillin, Mike Nicholson, Matthew Segar, Eric Sokolosky, Bryce Suchomel, Christian Treat. Women: Kelly Purcell, Kaitlyn Sweeney. Highlights: The 11 Bucknell swimmers combined for 13 top-eight finishes. Five different men posted multiple top-eight showings: Brown (100 back, 200 back), Nicholson (200 fly, 200 IM, 400 IM), Segar (100 free, 200 free), Sokolosky (50 free, 100 free, 100 fly, 200 free), Treat (200 IM, 100 breast). Segar claimed the only Bison victory, winning the 200 free. 2011 USA National Championships (Aug. 2-6, 2011 • Avery Aquatics Center • Palo Alto, Calif.) Bucknell Participants: Men: Thomas Brown, Billy Krause, Mike Nicholson, Matthew Segar, Eric Sokolosky, Christian Treat. Highlights: Brown (200 back), Krause (400 IM) and Nicholson (400 IM) competed in individual events, while all six Bison swam in time trials. Segar posted one of the better individual performances, coming just .14 seconds shy of an Olympic Trials cut in the 200 free time trial. 2012 Charlotte UltraSwim (May 10-13, 2012 • Mecklenberg County Aquatic Center • Charlotte, N.C.) Bucknell Participants: Men: Mike Nicholson, Christian Treat. Highlights: Nicholson finished 19th of 54 in 400 IM and came within .35 seconds of an Olympic Trials cut. 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix (June 3-6, 2012 • Haines International Swim Center • Santa Clara, Calif.) Bucknell Participants: Men: Mike Nicholson, Christian Treat. Women: Kelly Pontecorvo. Highlights: Nicholson posted an Olympic Trials cut in the 400 IM, beating the standard by .01 seconds. Treat reached the “C” final in three events, while Pontecorvo finished in the top half of the field in the 1,500 free. 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials (June 25-July 2, 2012 • CenturyLink Center • Santa Clara, Calif.) Bucknell Participants: Men: Erik Heinemann, Mike Nicholson, Matthew Segar. Women: Emily Norton. Results: • Erik Heinemann (200 fly) - 2:04.60 (100th of 134) • Mike Nicholson (400 IM) - 4:32.19 (t-75th of 109) • Emily Norton (200 breast) - 2:44.35 (114th of 118) • Matthew Segar (200 free) - 1:54.49 (116th of 124)
2013 Mid-Atlantic Championships (July 17-20, 2013 • Kinney Natatorium • Lewisburg, Pa.) Bucknell Participants: Men: Erik Heinemann, Ben Seketa, Daniel Wallace. Women: Jennifer Brennan, Stephanie Koziol, Emma Levendoski, Kelly Pontecorvo, Alyssa Rollando, Jackie Shroyer. Highlights: Heinemann posted three top-three finishes in his four events to pace the Bucknell contingent, while Ben Seketa added three top-10 showings. Pontecorvo had two top-eight finishes in longdistance free events, while Levendoski advanced to the “B” final of the 200-meter backstroke. 2013 U.S. Open (July 30-Aug. 3, 2013 • William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center • Irvine, Calif.) Bucknell Participants: Men: Mike Nicholson. Women: Emma Levendoski, Kelly Pontecorvo. Highlights: Nicholson competed in the 200 fly, 200 breast and 400 IM. Pontecorvo swam the 400 and 800 free, while Levendoski competed in the 100 back. 2014 Arena Grand Prix at Mesa (April 24-26, 2014 • Skyline Aquatic Center • Mesa, Ariz.) Bucknell Participants: Men: Louis Behnen, Jack Robinson, Ben Seketa. Women: Diana Hanson, Stephanie Koziol, Amber McDonnell. Highlights: Bucknell’s six swimmers combined for 11 finals appearances, including a team-best 16thplace showing in the 400 IM by Amber McDonnell. 2014 Mid-Atlantic Championships (July 16-19, 2014 • Kinney Natatorium • Lewisburg, Pa.) Bucknell Participants: Men: Collin Greene, Brian Phillips, Will Rappaport, Jack Robinson, Ben Seketa. Women: Rachel Brekovsky, Lyndsey Marcheskie, Emma Levendoski, Amber McDonnell. Highlights: Levendoski (200 back), McDonnell (200 IM, 400 IM) and Seketa (200 breast) recorded new school records during the four-day meet that featured more than 100 competitors in most events. Levendoski, McDonnell and Seketa each placed in the championship finals of at least one event. 2014 USA Swimming Junior Nationals (July 30-Aug. 3, 2014 • William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center • Irvine, Calif.) Bucknell Participants: Men: Louis Behnen Highlights: Behnen put together a strong meet, breaking a pair of school long course records. Behnen advanced to the finals and broke school records in both the 400 free and 400 IM. 2014 USA Swimming Senior Nationals (Aug. 7-Aug. 10, 2014 • William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center • Irvine, Calif.) Bucknell Participants: Women: Emma Levendoski Highlights: Levendoski swam the 200-meter backstroke and lowered her own long-course school record. She touched the wall in 2:17.48, .62 faster than she swam the event the previous month. Levendoski placed 44th in the competitive field of nearly 80 swimmers after being seeded 75th entering the event.
