 There may be no greater honor in collegiate sports than to be named All-American. While the number of organizations that name All-America teams has fluctuated over the years, the title is nevertheless a distinct honor bestowed only on the best players in the nation. George Young, noted National Football League executive and former Bison fo football star, passed away in December 2001 at the age of 71. Young earned Little A All-America honors in 1951 on the Bison team that went 9-0, the last Bucknell te team to finish a season undefeated. A 1952 BU graduate, Young played in the Blue-Gray All-Star Game and then on season with the Dallas Texans before breaking into the front office ranks with one th Baltimore Colts in 1968. He held several positions in that organization before the m moving to the Miami Dolphins as director of personnel and pro scouting in 1974. Young was named general manager of the Giants in 1979, serving 19 years with th organization and helping it to Super Bowl titles following the 1986 and 1990 that se seasons. The winner of the NFL’s Executive of the Year Award an unprecedented v times, Young was named Senior Vice President of Football Operations for five th NFL in 1998. the Young was inducted into the Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame in 1980.
