Support Staff/Bison Notebook Jamie Lavis
Assistant Athletic Trainer Jamie Lavis joined Bucknell’s Athletic Training staff in the summer of 2010. Previously she was the head athletic trainer and instructor at Bluefield College for two years, where she was responsible for providing athletic training services for all 13 of Bluefield’s sports. Additionally, she developed class plans for three one-credit fitness courses taught at the Greater Bluefield Community Center. Lavis graduated from California University of Pennsylvania in May 2006 with a degree in athletic training. One year later she earned her master’s degree in athletic training from the same school. Following graduate school, Lavis worked at NovaCare Rehabilitation performing physical therapy and serving as the head athletic trainer at Fort Cherry High School.
Student Manager
Jerry Shreck
Strength & Conditioning Coordinator The strength and conditioning program at Bucknell received a major boost in 2003 with the completion of the Krebs Family Fitness Center and Berger Family Weight Room, as well as the hiring of Jerry Shreck as the program’s first full-time strength and conditioning coordinator. A 1996 graduate of East Stroudsburg University with a degree in movement studies and exercise science, Shreck is charged with implementing detailed daily strength and conditioning routines for each of Bucknell’s programs. The general philosophy of the Bison strength program is year-round periodization with a high-intensity base, supplemented with functional and sport-specific training. Training programs for most teams will employ explosion techniques with power bands and pliometrics. The ultimate goal of the strength and conditioning program is the prevention of injuries and training athletes to their peak physical condition (as opposed to training bodybuilders). A native of nearby Montgomery, Pa., Shreck previously served as the athletic trainer for the Bucknell men’s basketball team for three seasons. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the National Council of Strength and Fitness.

Bison Notebook Coaching Debuts Aaron Roussell became Bucknell’s ninth head coach when he was hired in April 2012. He inherits a team that is coming off a season in which it went 5-25 overall and 3-11 in the Patriot League and returns all but two of its letterwinners. Of the eight previous Bucknell head coaches, only one – Rebecca Carr – registered a winning season in her debut campaign. The second coach in program history, Carr went 6-4 in 1976-77 before ultimately finishing her four-year tenure with the Bison with a 3130 record. Two coaches – Cindy Connelley and Juliene Simpson – improved Bucknell’s wins totals in their first seasons. Connelley’s nine wins was a one-game improvement, while Simpson had a fivewin improvement with her debut record of 7-20.
More Fresh Faces
Joining head coach Aaron Roussell in their first season with the Bison are assistant coaches Christian Stefanopoulos and Mike Lane, manager of basketball operations Brittany Pinkney and three freshmen, Tyler Craig, Sheaira Jones and Claire Maree O’Bryan. Stefanopoulos comes to Bucknell after her most recent turn as an assistant at Morehead State University. Lane, who previously
served on Roussell’s staff at the University of Chicago, was most recently the head coach at Division III Dominican University. On the player side, Craig and Jones come to Bucknell after successful high school careers in Ohio, while O’Bryan brings experience both from The Hill School and several runs with under-18 and club teams in her native Australia.
