Bryson Johnson scored a game-high 17 points, and Bryan Cohen and Mike Muscala added 13 each to lead Bucknell to a 70-57 win over Colgate and a 2-0 start in Patriot League play. The Bison led 38-29 after shooting 55.6 percent in the first half, but the key swing in the game came with about nine minutes remaining. Colgate had the ball down by eight points at 52-44 but threw the ball away on the left wing. At the other end, Johnson was left wide open for one of his five 3-pointers. The Raiders turned it over again on their next possession, and Cohen followed with a 17-foot jumper to push the lead up to a commanding 13 points at 57-44. Bucknell led by double digits the rest of the way. Mike Muscala scored a season-high 27 points, Cameron Ayers added 15 and Bucknell used a big second half to pull away from Lafayette 79-65 before a large bipartisan crowd at Kirby Sports Center. In a rematch of the 2011 Patriot League championship game played between two teams already off to 2-0 starts in conference play, the Bison took control early in the second half to win its fifth straight game and take over sole possession of first place. Bucknell turned a four-point halftime lead into a 14-point win thanks to a 45-point second half. The Bison made 17 of 26 shots (.654) in the final 20 minutes and scored on 21 of their 29 possessions. Muscala went 9-for-13 from the floor and 9-for-9 from the foul line. Bucknell also received a combined 14 points and 12 rebounds from Joe Willman and Brian Fitzpatrick and finished with a 48-26 scoring edge in the paint and a 34-18 rebounding advantage.

Mike Muscala recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Bucknell rode a terrific defensive effort to its sixth straight victory, 68-61 over Lehigh in a battle of the Patriot League’s two winningest teams. Cameron Ayers tallied 13 points, including the clinching free throws with 20 seconds left, Bryan Cohen added 12 points and Joe Willman had 11 for the Bison, who had 17 assists on 20 field goals and committed only eight turnovers. In addition to their scoring, Ayers and Cohen spent large amounts of time handling the ball with point guards Ryan Hill and Steven Kaspar in foul trouble, in addition to playing strong defense on Lehigh star C.J. McCollum. McCollum, the nation’s fifth-leading scorer at 21.2 points per game, was held to 14 points on 5-for-15 shooting. McCollum did have nine assists, but he was held to just four second-half points.

Mike Muscala recorded another double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds, Bryson Johnson scored 13 big second-half points, and Bryan Cohen logged his 1,000th career point in addition to his usual stellar defense, helping Bucknell to a 68-61 victory over second-place American and a two-game lead in the Patriot League standings. Daniel Munoz hit a 3-pointer and a free throw to give American a 21-14 lead, but then Muscala took over in the late stages of the first half. Three times he scored on low-post maneuvers, and he also assisted on a Joe Willman jumper. Muscala’s shot in the lane with 1:05 left in the half gave the Bison the lead for good, and Cohen’s layup with 29 seconds left made it a 14-4 run to end the half and put the Bison up 28-25 at intermission. Bucknell then took control in the first 10 minutes of the second half, outscoring American 21-9 to grab a 15-point lead. Mike Muscala scored 27 points on 11-for-15 shooting to lead Bucknell to a 66-51 victory at Navy on Saturday night. The Bison extended their Patriot League winning streak to 17 games — the longest conference streak in the nation — and their overall run to nine in a row. Muscala equaled his career high with 11 made field goals, scoring on an impressive array of outside shots and moves around the basket. He also went 4-for-4 from the foul line and grabbed eight rebounds while matching his season scoring high. He also had 27 in a win at Lafayette earlier in the month. Bryan Cohen added 12 points, including a couple of big first-half treys to help Bucknell stretch out its lead. Bucknell did well to contain Navy’s top two scorers, as J.J. Avila (16.3) and Jordan Sugars (11.5) were limited to eight apiece.
