ur shoot was initially inspired by the pink My Fair Lady-esque gown I had recently created and the ethereal location. Each piece captures the themes that repeat throughout my work: colour, romance, drama and a mix of period inspirations: Elizabethan, Edwardian and French Revolution. The pink dress is romantic froth with dramatic silhouette whilst the opera cape was inspired by a creation I had made previously for a client who wanted a ‘Shakespeare in Love’ theme. We paired the cape with a lace gown by Katya Katya Shehurina. The design process behind my pink ‘Eliza’ gown is quite unusual. It was originally made for another shoot. I knew the photographer’s taste and the model’s look and with reference to the chosen setting, much like designing for a client, I designed the dress to a particular brief; on this occasion one I had set for myself. With consideration to the style and essence of Emily Soto’s photography I knew the very gamine, delicate, red headed model, Alexa Taylor, would look fabulous in pink and I had a desire to make her curvaceous. And Alexa reminded me so much of Audrey Hepburn. I have always loved Audrey in the black & white race dress in My Fair Lady rocking an hourglass
