BEYOND THESE WALLS UMD Open Positions for Spring 2011 GENERAL EXECUTIVE BOARD President Must: have at least one semester of experience on a BTW executive board, be organized, have good communication skills, be flexible but able to meet deadlines, be dedicated, be able to commit two semesters (spring and fall). The president will oversee BTW programs and officers, set forth the agenda and preside at meetings, and guide BTW in accomplishing the mission and goals. He/she will tend to administrative duties such as: renewing SGA student group recognition, applying for office space, registering for First Look Fair, etc. He/she will work with the treasurer to ensure that funds are being spent appropriately and to carry out financial duties. He/she will seek out involvement with other student groups or new projects to be involved with.

Treasurer Must: be extremely organized and efficient with numbers, possess adequate and clear writing skills, be prompt and able to meet deadlines, be able to commit two semesters (spring and fall). One semester of experience on a BTW executive board is preferred but not required. The treasurer will maintain the finances for BTW and hold signatory power for financial transactions. He/she will apply for yearly funding through the SGA and Pepsi grant, attend the SGA finance meetings, and preside at meetings and functions that the president cannot attend. He/she will tend to the needs of the BTW programs by: requesting line item transfers, obtaining purchase orders, and making motorpool rentals.

Public Relations Chair Must: have superior communication and organization skills, be able to meet deadlines, be able to commit two semesters (spring and fall). The PR Chair will maintain relations between BTW and the organizations or schools in which we collaborate with and transmit information to the rest of the executive board. This may include other student groups who wish to form a partnership with BTW, groups who wish to co-sponsor events with us, or outside groups in the local community. The PR Chair will also serve as SGA Liaison and Fundraising Chair as needed.

Secretary Must: possess good and clear writing skills; be organized, prompt, and efficient; be able to commit two semesters (spring and fall). The secretary will maintain meeting minutes, keep a history of BTW activities, respond by email to general inquiries promptly, and be in charge of dispersing announcements regarding general body meetings (through listservs, facebook, ELMs, etc.). He/she will also be in charge of room reservations, making informational fliers and posters, printing and copying as needed, and taking attendance.


BEYOND THESE WALLS UMD Open Positions for Spring 2011 (Continued from page 2) JUNIOR TERPS EXECUTIVE BOARD Vice President / Coordinator of Junior Terps (2 Positions Open) Must: be available every Friday afternoon for at least one semester, be organized, prompt, and detail-oriented, have good communication and writing skills. The Vice Presidents will be in charge of the Junior Terps programs at Langley Park ES and Carole Highlands ES. He/she will: maintain contact with the school administration in order to run the program smoothly each week, recruit and educate volunteers, organize weekly transportation for volunteers, plan the schedule and oversee the program in general.

Activity Director (3 Positions Open) Must: be available every Friday afternoon for at least one semester, be organized, be creative and work well with elementary school students. The Activity Directors will work closely with the Junior Terps Vice Presidents (Coordinators) in order to plan activities for Junior Terps every week. He/she will: ensure that there is an adequate supply of materials, plan activities and prepare materials weekly, set up and give instructions during the program so that activities run smoothly.
