Contemporary Figure Painting

Wednesdays, September 20 – November 8, 1:30-4:30 pm

Prerequisite: Oil painting and figure drawing experience is recommended.

Intermediate and advanced painters, revitalize your painting practice with a contemporary approach to the figure, using vibrant color and dynamic composition. Work from live models each week, using non-toxic, watersoluble oils. Benefit from constructive feedback and individual coaching in a small group environment. Class price includes paint as well as the use of BCA’s palettes, easels, and painting trays. Students are responsible for some materials; see materials list online under class description.

Abstract Painting

Wednesdays, September 20 - October 25, 6-8:30 pm

Explore the many exciting possibilities of abstract painting through a variety of fun demonstrations and exercises designed to help you open up and work intuitively. Experiment with the paint of your choice (water-soluble oils, acrylics, or watercolor) and a variety of other mixed media. Learn from fellow students and discuss techniques and ideas in a supportive setting. While prompts will be given for you to respond to, please bring ideas and reference materials for inspiration. Beginners are welcome. Shared paint, the use of BCA’s palettes, easels, painting trays, and open studio hours during the weeks of the class are included. Students are responsible for some materials; see materials list under online class description.

Drawing

Thursdays, September 21-October 26, 6-8:30 pm

Learn a variety of drawing techniques including basic perspective, compositional layout, and use of dramatic light and shadows. Local artist Ashley Stagner leads you through a variety of drawing exercises and group discussions. Students are encouraged to work with a variety of drawing media including pencil, ink, and charcoal in this supportive and fun class. All levels of experience, including beginners, are welcome. All materials will be provided, including access to the studio during the weeks of your class.

Acrylic Painting

Wednesdays, November 1-December 13 (no class 11/22), 6-8:30 pm

This class introduces students to the tools and techniques artists use to create works of art in one of the most versatile mediums available. Learn the basics of mixing colors, blending, and a variety of acrylic painting techniques. Acrylic paint is the perfect medium for both the beginner and the experienced artist who wants to try something new. No experience necessary. Price includes all basic materials and equipment as well as open studio access during the weeks of your class.

COMICS & GRAPHIC NOVELS

Learn the art of storytelling through comics. From short form and comic strips to long form and the graphic novel, this course will focus on narrative style over drawing instruction. We will introduce students to the work of cartoonists representing a variety of styles and mediums. Some drawing experience recommended. All materials are provided.

COLLAGE WORKSHOP: WONDERLAND

Wonderland is a place where everything is possible. Create mixed-media collages filled imagination, inspired by iconic children’s books. Using a variety of papers, cutting, and layering collage techniques, students will make a set of playing cards worthy of the Queen of Hearts. Fall down the rabbit hole with local artist Madcollage as your knowledgeable guide. You’ll find your way back one paper snippet at a time! No collage experience necessary. All basic materials will be provided.

COLLAGE WORKSHOP: WINTER FOLK TALES

Vermont winters are long, but a lot of outdoor beauty goes unnoticed as we take refuge inside. In this workshop, we will use the magic of the winter landscape as inspiration. After sharing winter folk tales and looking at frosty paintings and photographs, students will collage bright and colorful greeting cards that can be given to loved ones. No collage experience necessary. All basic materials will be provided.
