Job Description

Hours of work: 11.30am to 2.30pm (Monday - Friday) 15 hours per week

Job Purpose:

To work under the direction and instruction of senior staff, to supervise children during the lunch time period, in nursery rooms and school premises. Ensuring the conduct, welfare, safety, physical and mental wellbeing of pupils and maintenance of good order and discipline. To provide a positive role model to the pupils at all times. To maintain confidentiality at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Adhere to the policies and procedures of the Day Nursery. Work as part of the nursery team and assist in any duties required. Ensure that the recommended staff/child ratios are maintained at all times. Maintain a clean safe environment at all times and report any health and safety concerns to management team.

Supervise and interact with children during the session, encouraging positive social skills and good behaviour in children.

To assist the younger children with meals as necessary (e.g. cutting up food etc.)

Encourage good table manners and eating habits among children.

To ensure all areas are cleaned and prepared in between sittings and at the end of lunchtime.

In the event of any spillage, to take action immediately to avoid possible accidents. Ensure records of the children’s day are completed.

Ensure supervision at mealtimes and all dietary requirements are adhered to Availability to work in any areas of the Day Nursery undertaking the care and supervision of the children and in other areas of the nursery to ensure its smooth running. Attend and participate in any further training programmes as required. Promote positive behaviour of children and within the staff team. Ensure confidentiality is maintained in the nursery. Maintain confidentiality in relation to child information and report problems/issues as well as significant matters with regard to child’s play and behaviour to a relevant member of staff
