21st Anniversary In 1992 a book was published called ‘Twentyone years of The British School of Brussels 1970 – 1991’, written by Lionel Bishop (Upper School Head) with the support of many members of staff, parents, students and alumni.
Copies of the book remain in the school’s archive and have often been referred to. The foreword in the book, is a copy of a printed letter from the British Ambassador to Belgium (Robin J O’Neill) who quoted: “The history of the British School of Brussels records a remarkable success story over the past twenty-one years, and one which brings together notable Belgian generosity, much enthusiasm and equal generosity on the part of the major international companies with staff in Belgium, and the vision and drive of a small but far-sighted group of British

residents in Brussels, who saw the need in the 1960s for a school to cater for the increasing number of families who wanted an English-language, British style education for their children.” In just over 200 pages, the book covers a twenty-one-year history of the school’s achievements and successes in remarkable detail.
