Enjoy a drive along the area’s many roads and byways. After a relaxing ride, get out of your car or off your motorcycle and experience some adventure! Adventure rental companies offer motorcycles, Slingshots, Razors, and other motorized vehicles for rent.

Road To Nowhere

Labeled Lakeview Drive on a map, this scenic ride will take you six miles into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to a dead-end road and the infamous “Road to Nowhere Tunnel”. You can park here and walk through the tunnel which adjoins many hiking trails within the Park. Lakeview Drive is easily accessible by motor vehicle or enjoy it via bike.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

It is no wonder the Smokies is the most visited national park in the country. Starting in Cherokee, you can drive the 35 miles to Gatlinburg along U.S. 441 and stop along the way for numerous trailheads and scenic overlooks. Cades Cove is also accessible via Little River Road near the Sugarlands Visitor Center.

Tail Of The Dragon

US 129 is known worldwide among motorcyclists and sports car enthusiasts, especially the 11-mile section with 318 continuous curves. The tight curves come one after another, so take caution.

Hellbender 28

Also popular with motorcyclists, the Hellbender 28 winds from Stecoah to Deals Gap. It’s a beautiful byway that travels alongside Fontana Lake. At about the midway point, you will come to the Historic Fontana Village and the breathtaking Fontana Dam.

Nantahala Gorge

Traveling US 19 through the Nantahala Gorge is a stunning drive that follows the Nantahala River and offers numerous pull-offs, picnic spots and river access points. At the western end of the gorge, turn onto Wayah Road and follow the river up Nantahala Mountain to view spectacular cascades

Blue Ridge Parkway

America’s Favorite Drive is perhaps the most well-known scenic byway in the country. Swain County is lucky to have several entrances within an easy drive. Explore the curvy roads or park your vehicle and enjoy a picnic, hike or bike ride.

Cherohala Skyway

This breathtaking 51-mile stretch of road stretches from Hwy 143 in Robbinsville, NC to Tellico Plains, TN, traveling the Cherokee and Nantahala National forests. This byway offers sweeping mountain views and dramatic elevation changes.

Waterfall Loop

If you’re on the hunt for waterfalls, this is the loop for you. Travel from Bryson City to the Deep Creek area to Cherokee, Franklin, Cashiers and Highlands. Be sure to save an entire day or two for this excursion. There are many cascades and falls to view along the way.
