Unfortunately, this year we did not receive 100% pass Welcome to 2017 and a special word of welcome to all rate but were congratulated on our 98.2% pass at a GDE function. TOP I.T. LEARNER IN THE DISTRICT Congratulations to Bryanston High School’s Top Matriculant from the class of 2016, Paayal Naiker, for being awarded the Top Learner in the District for IT (Information Technology) at this year’s Top Achievers Awards Ceremony held by the Gauteng Department of Education.

Mr Gillespie once again walked away with the Top Achieving Educators Award for EGD (Engineering Graphics and Design) for 2016, which makes this the third year in a row that he has received this award. BRYANSTONIAN TRIATHLETE Bryanston high School matric learner, Cameron McNair, has been selected for the Gauteng Central Triathlon Team for 2017. Cameron will be competing in the 2017 SA Triathlon Champs and African Cup on Sunday 19 March. We wish you all the best Cameron!


PHENOMENAL BRYANSTONIANS BESTOWED HIGHEST AWARD WITH HONOURS BLAZERS Bryanston High School is proud to be able to award a white blazer to three young ladies who have shown an extra commitment in taking their academic achievements to new heights, by achieving 6 distinctions in their Grade 11 year for 2016. Our congratulations go to matric learners JENNA PRINSLOO, TARSHA ISAAC and our very own Councillor President (Head Girl), MUSA NDABA. The following learners receive a white blazer for achieving four sets of full colours in a single year in various aspects of school life in one/the same year: CANDACE ESLICK who received full colours for netball, athletics, academics and councillorship. She is a wonderful example of a well-rounded, involved Bryanstonian.

TAMARA CHINGANYA is awarded the White Blazer for achieving four full colours in one year for Tennis Coaching, Hockey Umpiring, Academics & Councillorship. Well done to this exceptional young lady.

ACCOUNTING LESSONS

IAN EDWARDS receives his white blazer for receiving full colours for orienteering, squash, academics and councillorship. Ian also received a reaward of a White Blazer for achieving 9 distinctions in Grade 11. Current Councillor President (Head Boy), GARETH EDWARDS, received a White Blazer for achieving four full colours in his Grade 11 year (2016) in the following fields; orienteering, squash, academics and councillorship. Gareth also received a re-award of a White Blazer for achieving 8 distinctions in Grade 11. We would like to not only congratulate each of these Bryanstonian learners on their achievement of their white blazers, but also like to thank and congratulate their families and support networks who have been there every step of the way to help these learners reach these new levels of success in all that they do.

TROPHY WINNERS GRADE 11 IN 2016 CULTURAL GIRL The recipient of this award is an amazing young lady who has taken rhetoric to a new high level. She is an outstanding speaker, an integral part of the Debating society and a valued adjudicator for the Junior SACEE League Debates and received full colours. She has been an outstanding Chairperson this year and has mentored the younger debaters inculcating within them a love of debating. We look forward to another year with her at the helm. Congratulations Musa Ndaba. SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR This award goes to a young woman who has participated in swimming, open water swimming, netball and athletics. She received team colours for swimming. She was the most promising under 17 swimmer at inter-house and she was the best under 17 swimmer overall. She also was awarded the Senior Victrix Natationis for swimming. She played 1st team netball for the second year in a row and received full and area colours and was awarded best goal shooter. She ran for the athletics team at inter-high and was the sprint captain. She was awarded full and area colours for athletics as well as received a silver medal at prestige and won the Senior Victix Lodorum at inter-high. Congratulations, once again, to Candace Eslick. SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR This award goes to a young gentleman who has participated in Swimming, Open Water Swimming, Cricket, Hockey and Tennis. He received half colours for Swimming and Open water Swimming and was the vice captain for the A Swimming team. He has been part of the Boy’s First Hockey team and Cricket for 3 years, where he received full colours for Hockey and half colours for Cricket. He is truly a phenomenal and talented Tennis player who has played in the first team since Grade 8. He captained the Tennis team and received full, provincial and national colours. TROPHY WINNERS GRADE 10 IN 2016 BEST CLASS CAPTAIN Very well done to Savanna Nash. CULTURAL GIRL The recipient of this award is a young lady who is multi talented. As a member of the Rhetoric Society, she proved herself a force to be reckoned with on the Senior Debating Team. She represented the Grade 10 Public Speaking team in a most prestigious inter-school competition and she demonstrated great skill as a negotiator in her role of delegate at the Annual Model United Nations Conference. Added to this, she wowed the audience in her role of Kathy in the outstanding 2016 Major Production “Disco Inferno”. Congratulations and well done to Andrea Noriega Del Valle CULTURAL BOY The recipient of this award achieved a lead role as Terry in the 2016 production of “Disco Inferno”. He is always eager to improve himself and is always ready to help in any way that he can. This young man has been a delight to have in the major production team and we look forward to seeing him on the Bryanston stage this year. Congratulations and well done Bradley Fulcher. SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR (SHARED AWARD) The first recipient is a fantastic Netball player, playing for Bryanston First Netball team and was award half colours. In addition to this she plays in the Western Gauteng Indoor Netball Super League and in the Central Gauteng Netball team took part in the Interprovincial tournament last year and was placed 3rd overall. She is also a very accomplished Netball umpire and is qualified to umpire at first team level. This young lady is also a very talented runner as well and ran for the school Athletics and cross teams. She ran at Inter-High Athletics and was placed 4th. She was awarded half colours for athletics. She was a cricket scorer though out the course of cricket season and took part in the polar bear swim as well. Congratulations to an amazing sportswoman Tracey Muthunzi. The second recipient of this shared award is going to a young lady who is also a very talented netball player. She played in Bryanston first team and was awarded her half colours for netball at school and was award with regional colours for netball as well. She is a superb swimmer and was awarded half colours for swimming and open water swimming last year. She ran in the school athletics team and was awarded team colours for athletics. She was a cricket scorer during the cricket season too. This young lady is an exceptional gymnast and was awarded her provincial gymnastics colours. She took part in the National Gymnastics competition held in Durban last year finished 3rd in the country! Congratulations to a phenomenal sportswoman Kim van Duyn. SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR (SHARED AWARD) The first recipient of this award to a young gentleman who played in the Bryanston High School first tennis team and was awarded full colours for tennis. He was also a member of the school First Boys hockey side and was awarded half colours for hockey. He played cricket for the second cricket team during 2016. He was a runner in our athletics team and was awarded team colours for athletics. This young man was also a swimmer in the schools team. Congratulations to an amazing young sportsman John Tyson. The second recipient of this award goes to a young gentleman who played first team cricket and was awarded team colours. He was also a member of the first tennis team and was awarded half colours for tennis. He played in the 2nd boys squash team. He is a fantastically talented hockey player and played in first boys hockey team and was awarded full colours. In 2016 he was chosen for the Southern Gauteng District hockey team which is a remarkable achievement AND he is a hockey umpire. TROPHY WINNERS GRADE 9 IN 2016 BEST CLASS CAPTAIN Very well done to Tiago Timothy. CULTURAL GIRL This award goes to a young lady who has continued to contribute to the cultural life of Bryanston in varied and challenging ways. She played a lead role in last year’s major production of “Disco Inferno”. She was also selected or the 2016 Amped Fest and represented Bryanston High in front of 7000 spectators at the finals. Congratulations Jenna du Toit SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR The recipient of this award was a young lady who was selected to play at District level for athletics and hockey. She received both gold and silver medals at the Athletics Torch Trophy event. She represented Bryanston High at both the inter-high and prestige swimming galas. She also played for the U16 hockey team at the Pullen-Howel Tournament. Congratulations to a truly talented, all round sportswoman Yasmine Bie. SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR (SHARED AWARD) The first recipient of the sportsman of the year award is a highly competitive and dedicated all round sportsman. He was selected for the Gauteng Inter-Provincial Athletics squad as well as for the Northern District team for Inter-District Cross Country. This young gentleman also played inter-district cricket and was awarded full junior colours for athletics and cross country. In addition to this he also played first team cricket and first team hockey for Bryanston High. Congratulations Peter Nyoni. The second young man received both National and Provincial colours for Karate. He was awarded team certificates for athletics and was also a member of the Tennis, Cross Country, Rugby and Orienteering Teams. Congratulations Neo Eloff.

TROPHY WINNERS GRADE 8 IN 2016 BEST CLASS CAPTAIN Very well done to Megan Britz. SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR This young lady blew us away with her skills on the tennis court from the moment she arrived at Bryanston High School. She received Junior full Colours for tennis in 2016. She was the overall winner of the grade 8 tennis tournament and placed 2nd at the Bryanston High tennis championships. It is clear that this young lady loves being on court as she excelled during the netball season too – playing for the U/14A team and going on to be selected for the Gauteng team for her age group. She has a cheerful disposition and is clearly passionate about what she does. Congratulations Matilda Ndlovu. SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR We are very proud of this Bryanstonian for showing us his True Blue Spirit as he led the U/14A rugby team to many victories during the 2016 season. He portrayed great leadership on and off the field and is a true gentleman. During 2016 he not only took part in Cross Country but also participated in Athletics. This young man is proof that dynamite comes in small packages. He was awarded his South African colours and had the honour of representing South Africa in Judo at the Commonwealth Games. BRYANSTONIANS WITH UNIQUE TALENTS Tristan Hayman (Grade 10) received his fir st Dan black belt in Takwondo on 12 Nov 2016. Tristan has set his sights on competing overseas at World Championships later in 2017 in Takwondo. Congratulations Tristan and coach Bbm Sonya Rebelo. Jenna du Toit (Grade 10) par ticipated in the National Figures Model of the Year competition at the end of last year and was awarded an honorary medal for winning a place as one of the top ten commercial models in her age category in the country. Well done Jenna! CHEERLEADING NEWS The following members of the Bryanston High School cheerleading squad have been awarded with Provincial Scrolls for achieving Gauteng Colours in cheerleading, congratulations to Crystall Murray, Kgola Rahube and Kate Enslin. Some of their fellow squad members were awarded with National Colours for cheerleading, Bryanston High School would like to congratulate the following learners for this excellent achievement; Shannon Penny, Jess Muller and Philani Dlamini. This year the cheerleading squad will be led by captains Shannon Penny and Vongai Chibvongodze together with vice capatins Tarsha Isaac and Roland Desplace. Well done cheerleaders!
