Rebekah Tooley ‘08 Junior Human Resources Generalist, Center for Shared Services

fter graduating in 2008 with a B.A. in Corporate Communications, Rebekah Tooley ‘08 spent a few months overseas and applied for several jobs in higher education, but no such doors opened. In the summer of 2009, Concerned Women for America (CWA) came on her radar, and she says, “Three weeks later, I accepted an offer to pack up and move my life to the nation’s capital.” She has lived in Washington, D.C., ever since. After working at CWA for two years, she took a position as a legal secretary for Koch Companies Public Sector, where she says her interest in human resources began. Just this past September she began a new position with the Center for Shared Services as a junior human resources generalist, focusing on learning HR, in addition to coaching and creating “a valuable culture in various nonprofit organization structures.” While in college Rebekah did not take a single business class, and a career in business administration and human resources was the furthest thing from her mind. “God will sometimes lead His children

down unexpected paths to place them where He wishes them to be,” she concludes. It is His grace, she concludes, that placed her where she is now, not only professionally but – on an even deeper level – in her understanding of the Lord. During her time at CWA she became a member of Capitol Hill Baptist Church, where she “quickly fell in love with the Gospel for what felt like the first time” and committed to “plant roots in the city” and become a lifelong member. She says that while in D.C., her heart has been awakened to the beauty the local church in the scope of God’s overarching plan, and how through the church body He truly is at work in the midst of His people, whatever career He may lead them individually into.
